Great buy! More affordable packaged well but the tool is has too many threads which is why you need to be careful not to overtighten the tool or the tool will break

We took out the old one and matched it up. Perfect fit for my 2003 VW Passot. Even Amazon said it wouldn’t fit… But we proved them wrong! Only think that was different was the color of the plastic… But we don’t need to talk about that…

I’m glad I replaced it when I did, the old one had worn through. Had to replace the valve cover gasket of course. It was also difficult to find a torque driver within 7ft/lbs to tighten bolts. I broke the included tool but that was my mistake by overtightening it.

I installed this tensioner into my ’03 Passat 1.8T engine about two months ago. So far the part is working perfectly. I highly recommend this part as a viable alternative to the OEM part.
UPDATE (May 2018): The part has failed after having been installed a little more than six months ago. The part is leaking down at certain RPM ranges while the engine is running which was letting the cam chain rub the valve cover as the engine was accelerating. As well, it would leak down when the engine was shut off for a few hours. Sometimes when this Leak down was left sitting, the intake cam would be left slightly out of time which made the engine slow to start. Of course, as soon as the engine did start and would build oil pressure, it would run normal.
I contacted the manufacturer, Geluoxi, to see if they would make a special allowance for a warranty on the part. They said that since the part was out of warranty and since the order was fulfilled by Amazon, I would have to see if they would allow me to return the product because Geluoxi was not accepting responsibility for the failure.
I removed the faulty part and purchased a used, genuine VW/Audi tensioner and installed new sliders on it. Once this was installed, it worked correctly again.
I can no longer recommend this product. The installation of this part took me about 2.5 hours and required new gaskets.
