Replaced factory tensioner assembly at 100k. Replaced with second gates tensioner assembly at 200K. Still working just fine after 100K miles.

This is the second one I have purchased. The first one was still working fine with 100,000 miles on it, but since I was changing the timing belt, I installed a new one. The new one seems to be of good quality and its working great.

I know the potential issue of the bolt breaking and I am always very careful to use new bolt and torque properly. I have replaced the idler every time I have replaced the timing belt. Paid the extra money for this one to not have issues with poor bolt quality. Just under one year and 10,000 miles, it broke on the way to work this morning, sheared clean off. Now I have alot of work ahead of me to get the tip of the bolt extracted. Really not sure why this bolt quality issue still remains. Pretty sure the listing at that time even brought attention to the quality of the bolt (not sure it is still there because I will not be looking to buy this again).

Update: Recently, I had to take off and reinstall the tensioner. Now a week later, the beefy bolt that goes through the pulley has sheared off. The pulley is lost and the rest of the bolt is stuck in the engine. Apparently, lots of people have reporting this issue with broken bolts over many years (google it). There is a very specific procedure from Honda (again google it) for installing this tensioner, if you don’t follow it (and even if you do), the bolt may break. Some people reported that they could fix the issue only the new genuine Honda part 31170-R70-A01, others indicated that in addition to following the Honda procedure for the installation you need to torque this bolt first before you do anything else with the bolt on the hydraulic cylinder side. The issue is only present with this style of tensioner on J35A7 engine (found only on Odyssey EX-L and Touring) but not on the tensioner for J35A6 engine (LX, EX).

perfectly fits on Honda Pilot 2006; when installing the serpentine belt be careful to slowly move the belt tensioner in order not to damage the hydraulic end. check the directions where to tighten and relax the serpentine belt. Great price and quality!

I purchased a cheaper one a couple of weeks ago and the tensioner nut immediately stripped when trying to install the belt. This one worked perfectly. I would buy again but hopefully I won’t need to.

Fitted 2007 Honda Odyssey perfectly and cured the tensioner wobble and rattle on a 150k van. Easy to fit if you have a long skinny wrench to get down and move the tension nut. I used a long torque wrench.
