I purchased this for a 2001 Ford Focus ZTS 2.0L DOHC & used it to replace the OEM tensioner.
Installation of the tensioner is fairly simple compared to the otherwise hell of everything else on the Ford Focus, so that is a definite plus! Still, this part is not OEM — is it still quality? Yes. I’d say it is high quality.
The part is only a matter of two bolts to install. Now, I can’t say for the OEM part, but when it came time to tension the serpentine belt into place, this was rather difficult to do. I don’t think that’s a fault of the part though; it’s the awkwardness of pulling tension based on the Focus’ design. I would recommend asking for a quick assist when installing the serpentine belt. I did not & holding tension while worrying about getting the belt in place…that’s just an unecessary amount of excess effort & time.
Otherwise, this part isn’t OEM, but it is well built, it fit perfectly into place, & it works. For the price compared to local auto shops, this is hands down the better value. Unless you’re looking to rebuild a 2001 Ford Focus ZTS into a cherry show car (…God help you), then I would definitely recommend this part for your vehicle.

Brand new out of the box it failed to keep the belt tension tight at idle speed on 2001 Ford Focus DOHC. It vibrated excessively and was very noisy at idle speed. Replaced with Motorcraft part # BT-106. The price for the Motorcraft part was more than 2X this one, but it works great with good belt tension from idle to high speed and very quiet. Go for the Ford Motorcraft part. You’ll be glad you did.

I installed this on a 2003 SVT Focus along with a new Gates belt (K060837) and Gates idler pulley (36200). This part was an exact fit for the OEM tensioner that was removed. It does a good job maintaining proper belt tension as I have have had no issues with belt slippage (too loose) or belt/pulley noise (too tight) so far. I’ve put ~1k miles on this part since installation and have been happy with my purchase. As a side note, the Amazon photo shows the part as being totally blue but mine looked nothing like that (thankfully!), it was a silver metal base with a black pulley just like the OEM tensioner.

I ordered this for my Ford Focus to replace the original, which no longer moved to provide the required tension. This unit was a direct fit and works great. It is a better design than the OEM part in regards to twisting it to get the belt on. It also appears to be disigned better to seal out the elements.

I opted to get this tensioner after going through 5 different Dayco tensioners that have failed in the past year on my old 99 Contour.
The casting closely resembles the original Ford part that I retained for the part numbers and appears to be constructed of a higher grade material than the other aftermarket ones. So far it does not chatter like the Dayco ones offered by Advance Auto and AutoZone and appears to work as advertised. I saved the most recent Dayco one I removed to install this one as a back-up because I am too gun-shy of the tensioner failing after going thru so many…

I replaced this last summer after a Duralast one snapped in two while I was driving. I replaced the belt and idler pulley along with it. All from Gates. Over the past couple of days, I started hearing a chirping noise coming from the engine bay. I noticed that the tensioner arm was moving back and forth with the sound. I used a mechanic’s stethoscope and sure enough it was the tensioner.
