This pulley did not fit my 1990 toyota pickup, I bought this pulley to replace the power steering tensioner pulley but unfortunately it doesnt even match, not even the bearing in the center.

When I first got the pulley I was extremely upset, it was smaller and totally different looking from the OE one, it is like a child’s head on a man’s shoulders. I removed the old one from my 1994 22re 4WD pickup and I almost put it back on. I wrote to Gates and asked them about the size difference and if the bearing was centered here is what they had to say:
Hello – we have the OE pulley here for comparison and the outside diameter is marginal and the main concern is where the belt rides in the pulley meaning you should have enough adjustment and in this case the bearing is centered to where there is no front or back it should just bolt up either way.
I installed the pulley, it looks delicate and small compared to the large manly original, but it worked and the belt lined up. I wish Toyota sold just the bearing for the OE 44350-35010 pulley.
The reason I gave it five stars, it works and I could not bring myself to pay $144.70 for an OE one so if it lasts 13,500 miles I will get my money out of it compared to the OE one. The OE has a bearing and a bushing while the Gates only has a bearing. So far Gates products have served me well.
All of the aftermarket ones are this size so they all cannot be wrong.

Used 2 of these on old Craftsman drill press with factory dis-located motor. Quieted down the noise to near silent and decreased belt vibration and wear from oem cast bronze shimmed, pot metal style pulleys.
Update 2020: There lil gems are still smooth rollin n quiet as ever!!

I replaced the AC tensioner pulley on an ’89 4runner with this (the 22re engine). It works great, though I had to shim it in with a bunch of washers to get it to line up with the belt line and not rub on the bracket. It isn’t exactly the same as the other one, but of course, you aren’t paying Toyota OEM prices… and it works!
Anyone who is ordering this will be able to figure it out.

This item was listed as replacement for both the power steering and air conditioning idler/tensioners for my ’94 Toyota Pickup with 22re. It seems very close for the air conditioning idler. However for the power steering idler it is noticably smaller in diameter (approx 3/8 … but I didn’t measure) and the bearing is quite a bit “lighter duty” than original. As with the other reviewer, the pulley was shimmed for alignment(12mm washers) and seems to work fine. How long it will stand up remains to be seen. I’m going to hold on to the pulley that I replaced and get a new bearing for it if this one fails.
