Check engine light would not go out. Spent the $60 for an original item at the dealer, and it works. No more check engine light.

I live in an area that requires annual emission checks to license your automobile. As long as it less than 26 years old, like my 2001 Honda Odyssey. I started getting a check engine light and a code read revealed it was an evaporative pollution control issue due to loss of vacuum in the fuel system. As this was not caused by driving with the cap off or loose, I giggled the issue revealing that the quickest, easiest and cheapest thing to try was replacing the gas cap. So that’s what I did. With this item. The problem persisted. I checked other potential sources of leaks going so far as to really check out the fuel pump. Thank god I didn’t replace it. For some reason, it donned on me that a genuine Honda part might actually be of highest quality. I bought one of those. That cleared up the problem. Not saying that cheaper, non-OEM parts don’t work, but I am saying this one didn’t work for me. I’ll gladly pay the price for genuine Honda here on out.

It goes on great. But, I find it difficult to take off, even if you don’t turn it until it clicks. They say to turn it until it clicks three times! I feel like I would need a crowbar to take it off at that point.

I used this gas cap to replace the one I probably left on the trunk of the car when I bought gas. It was easy to screw on but it never ‘clicked’ 3 times as the Honda Civic Manual says it should and the ‘check engine light’ never went off. Prior to having the state required vehicle inspection we had a test run at our local gas station and after that, the ‘check engine light’ went out. However, the gas cap failed the inspection. We went to the Honda dealer and purchased a cap that appeared the same as this one. The cap from the Honda dealer passed the state inspection.
