Do NOT buy! Looks and feels like a direct replacement; however, this gas cap will have your ECM throwing an engine light with a P0455 DTC. Put the 13 year old cap back on and zero issues.

Of course, somebody had to steal my gas cap. So after going without a gas cap for a couple of weeks I decided that I better do something about it. I got this one on Amazon. It couldn’t have fit better than the OEM. I was able to pop the old connector out and plug this one right in so it hangs there if you unscrew it and just kind of job it it’ll stay right there. It was a perfect fit so I am very happy and don’t have to worry about my gas spilling out somehow.

The gas cap feels smaller/lighter than my original one. It fits my 2013 Altima and closes fine. The only thing is the buckle seems to be a bit small for the slot I have and so the tether still keeps coming loose.

REVIEW FOR: Gas Cap with Tether #17251-3JA0A – Compatible with Nissan Altima/Frontier/Murano/Pathfinder/Versa/Note, Infiniti QX60/JX35, Replaces #17251-9BD0E & #17251-1VZ0D
I got this replacement gas cap for my 2009 Nissan Altima to replace the factory gas cap mainly because I didn’t know that I could just replace the tether and my tether was broken. Actually it has been broken for years and it has never bother me too much. When I saw the opportunity to get a replacement however, I figured I would see how it goes and give a review.
So it arrived sealed in a clear plastic bag. It had no instructions. (I may have laughed if there were instructions. “1. Rotate old cap to be replaced counter-clockwise until it…”) Okay, so I removed the old cap. You’ll never guess what I did next. Wrong! I put the new cap on and turned it clockwise. Oh. Guess you were correct. So then I took a screwdriver (flathead) to the buckle(?)/pin holding the broken piece of the old tether to the fuel door of the car. The one that was there was more like the black one that comes with this, than the gray one. Surprisingly, it did not “pop out”, it actually snapped off. So thank you, Bularie, for including two of them (albeit two different styles), in case I break one installing it. So then I had to knock out the broken plastic that was stuck inside before I could install the new “buckle.” Nbd, popped it away with the screwdriver then put the ring on the end of the tether over the hole the buckle snaps into, pressed it into place, and voila! All good.
I stopped to get gas a couple days later. Had no “Check Engine Light” (or even a “Service Engine Soon” one) or any other problems after the swap. Got to the pump, removed the cap, old hat. No difference from the old one. Well, none that I could feel or tell. I’m not sure how those things age, so I have no idea if I should expect anything to be better. I just knew that if I got a CEL, that it was probably a problem with the new cap. Didn’t happen, so no worries.
Since I was seeing tether replacements for around $10, and this isn’t much more, I would recommend this, even if all you need is the tether. I’m hanging on to my old cap for a while, because I can, and if anything goes sideways, I can always put that back on. But I’m leaving the new one installed for now, and if any issues pop up, I’ll be back here to report.
