I have several different 5 gallon gas cans, and it fit each one perfectly

I lost one of my gas can lids and got these as a replacement. The thread fits and the oring inside is nice so that they seal.

They claim to be “thickened” and that claim is correct. I bought some other caps on Amazon that turned out to be way too flimsy. For comparison, the flimsy caps weighed 15grams. These caps weigh 25 grams. the cheaper caps can be flexed by hand, but these cannot. I bought a couple different brands of this style of cap and they all appear to be identical. They all weigh the same. I bought these to fit Midwest metal gas cans, and they fit perfectly. The cheaper caps that I had did not tighten properly because they were too deep, but these caps are the proper depth to tighten fully. These are the ones you want.
