I have now used this for a month and it is great. I normally have to use reading glasses but since this allows me to hold it about 18″ away, I can easily read my gps. The clip onto th gps secure, just like the original carabiner that came with the unit. Velcro comment ion is stable and secure. It is easy to pull unit off Velcro to read and simple to reconnect. I tried the belt clip as well and it is fine, but for me this system is much better. Unit is always connected to backpack, so you are newer at risk of dropping of forgetting it. I can see the the cord will get frayed over time as it comes in contact with the Velcro, but it is just a cord and can easily be replaced with any string or a nice shoelace. I think I will rub the cord with some candle wax to see if that will reduce the tendency for the line to snag on the Velcro. It isn’t a big issue.
Works great.

This device consists of a plastic clip that attaches to the Garmin device with a 2″ by 1″ area of Velcro (I’ll call this the device clip). The second piece has a 2.5″ by 1″ piece of Velcro with rubberized backing that has two straps held together with Velcro strips (I’ll call this the gear plate). Here are the pros and cons:
Pros: The device clips onto the device firmly and seems very secure.
The device can then be mounted using the two straps with Velcro closures to any gear or irregular secure surface that you want (backpack, belt, etc.). So it’s pretty versatile.
Cons: The Velcro on the straps is not very robust and is starting to wear after only one use. The straps go through some slits on the rubberized plate and I don’t see how they could be easily replaced. Adjustable straps with a little more length and a buckle clip would be better.
The cord that attaches to the Garmin device clip and then to the plate with the straps is not robust. The cord is soft and clings to the Velcro surfaces easily. It often gets in the way when you are trying to reattach the device. After only one use, the cord is already starting to fray. It is a nice safety featrure in case you drop the device, but better material and perhaps a coating would make it less irritating and it would last longer.
Finally, the area of Velcro on the device clip and the strap/gear plate is not a very big area. It works, and obviously you don’t want it to be much larger, but a little more surface area would make the Garmin device stay attached more securely.
Overall, I thought the item was pricey for what you get. Perhaps Garmin will come up with an improved design.

So you’re on a hike and recording your track, and need to check your GPS device regularly to enter waypoints etc. Where to keep your GPS unit? In your pocket, or even a belt clip, your body can block the signal some of the time. The top pocket of your backpack works fine, but not if you need to get at the unit regularly.
This device secures to a shoulder strap on your backpack. This places it high on your body for relatively unobstructed GPS signals. It is detached and reattached by a simple hook-and-loop patch. Super convenient.

I have no idea where some of these prior negative reviews are coming from. This thing is great. The velcro is super strong and yes, over time I am sure it will start to have less of a grip, but hey, that’s velcro! If you take it on and off that much and use it that much, just buy another one once you wear out the velcro. Duh. The velcro straps that go around a day pack strap are long enough to go all the way around and get a full strip of velcro so there is no risk of it falling off. The only thing I did not like is that on my daypack this makes my GPS unit sit really high, so if I look to my right and down, my chin touches the unit. Also, I noticed that if I am geocaching and looking around in rocks I need to be very careful about getting down flat because the unit can hit the rocks. Other than that, this attachment device is great! The lanyard is not of “poor” material and actually seems to be pretty good. Yes, it would be better to replace the lanyard with 550 paracord material, but again…you could do that. I will probably do that once their lanyard wears out or worries me at all. Also, there were some reviews about not being able to remove the clip easily…not the case….super easy, no issues, and once it is back on you get an audible click and it is solidly in place. To remove you simply pull up the bottom and it releases the attachment and comes right off. Overall, I would purchase this again for sure.

This works exactly as expected. My inreach used to dangle around all the time and this has put an end to it!
super easy to attach to the pack strap and easy to remove if you need to hold the inreach at any point. Only downside is that stuff sticks to the velcro every so often… can’t win em all!

Prior to purchasing this I had to carry, stuff in a pocket, or attach my eTrex to a lanyard. In all cases, it was less than ideal. Now, I can just pull the eTrex off my pack strap, make sure I’m still on target, and quickly re-attach to the pack strap. Really nice.
The only “downside” if you can call it that is the cord can get caught in the velcro. Easy enough to remedy.

I bought this to use with my inreach mini and it has worked flawlessly. I have seen questions on weather it works with the mini and it totally does. I have used this backpacking with an Osprey atmos 65 as well as a REI Flash 63 and a camelbak day pack. It has worked well on all of them and I am super happy with it. Yes, the velcro sticks to the lanyard but to me that’s not a deal breaker and as others have mentioned a piece of paracord is an easy fix. Well worth the money for both ease of use and protection for such an expensive little device.
