One of these days I will learn that saving $375 for a less expensive pump is not worth it. I am on my second one from the same company. Everything hooked up prior to reinstalling. Everything worked. Installed tank and fuel gauge out again.

Fits the Ford Explorer Sport Trac 2002, but only four wire. Original was 5 wires. Although it runs with the car, am not sure if it has some problem later. Missing connection with a module

The original pump in my Explorer lasted about 16 years and 254,000 miles.
This PHILTOP pump lasted about 4 months and 4,000 miles. Toward the last month or so of that it was quite noisy. Even through a full tank of fuel, you could hear it whining with the fan and radio turned off. There was also some interference noise in the radio speakers at idle. The strainer AND inline filter were changed at the same time. I don’t know what failed but when you put power to the pump, nothing happens, which tells me it has failed internally somewhere. This was not the experience I was hoping to have with this part. The ratings were higher at the time of purchase, which tells me I’m not the only one to experience early failures if those reviews have since been updated.
I understand nobody wants to pay more for the OEM Motorcraft pump. It’s more expensive, but that’s for a reliability reason. That said, we’re trying a $90 Carter pump at this time and it has already lasted as long as the $48 PHILTOP. Truck is up to 262,000 miles (4K since installation around Thanksgiving).
In the description, PHILTOP says “Direct replacement for worn fuel pump assembly” and they’re not wrong. We definitely received a worn fuel pump assembly, and it chugged along just long enough to gaslight us into thinking it was a good part and then went right back to stalling and surging and long cranking and finally no pressure at all. We wasted more money chasing other issues. Thought maybe the crank sensor gave up. Thought a new ignition coil pack would help. Plugs were worn down quite a bit but they didn’t fix the issue. Plug wires tested fine but we replaced them anyway. Finally pulled the fuel line at the filter and sure enough, the pump wasn’t doing pumping things.
It’s not very nice to have to pull the fuel tank to do a fuel pump change. It’s much less nice to have to do it twice because of a bogus part. I’d leave one star but people ignore one stars. Two stars lets you know, yeah, it kinda works, for a little while, but this is why you don’t cheap out on important parts. Sure, get the cheap air filter. Get the cheap belts or hoses. Those are easy to change. Don’t go cheap on the part you have to bench press 15 gallons of fuel in a five foot long plastic tank that wedges into place over the transmission crossmember and requires removal of heat shields, multiple vapor hoses and electrical connectors, and even the driveshaft to get it to come out. My husband was NOT happy to have to do this twice but he okayed the cheap part so this is on him. Nope, it’s on PHILTOP. Never again!!!
