As of this date, there are problems with the description that a buyer needs to know about.
Listed is a CA6664 Fram Extra Guard air filter. My rig requires a flat filter and I have used a Fram CA6664 in the past. There IS a round air filter with the same Fram number! This item is described as a ‘round’ air filter, although the picture is of a flat filter. Note that the description of the part (8.5 x 2 x 10.5 inches) indicates it is a flat filter. The part I received was indeed a flat filter, which is what I needed.
Also, the ‘Does it fit?’ function said this item did NOT fit my rig, but a search FOR a filter to fit my rig comes up with THE SAME filter! That lookup ‘help’ may needlessly steer potential buyers clear of this item.
The description above is laborious for a reason. Ad descriptions here seem to change a good bit over time. I’ve read many reviews that make no sense when compared to the description. Obviously what some reviewers receive is NOT what was advertised. Hopefully, regardless of future description changes, this review will still be helpful.
For this particular filter, what does ‘extra guard’ mean? I counted the pleats on other standard service filters for my vehicle on manufacturer websites: 26. This filter has 42. That is a 60% difference. A count of 42 still allows plenty of space between the pleats such that all of the filtering material is presented to the air stream.
I found other ‘standard’ air filters that cost MORE than this fourteen buck Fram. The media frame is sturdy, the frame piece down the middle will keep the pleats straight and open. The filter media is as finely woven as any I’ve seen.
It’s a good buy for a good filter.
