Three stars b/c of how difficult they were to get on the ends of the cable sufficiently to have enough clearance. I had to use a large flathead screwdriver and a hammer to wedge it open far enough for a proper fit. So far, they are working just fine, but took too long to install in my opinion and could’ve been better designed to fit the vehicle they say it did – 2000 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer.

Overall, this is a good repair kit and worked on my 2006 Ford E350 Econoline. The inside diameter of the cable end was slightly smaller than the OEM door cable making it difficult to slide on. I used a drill bit to shave off some of the metal to and was able to install the cable end onto the cable. The cable end head fit perfectly in the door handle assembly. I’m going to another set to keep as a backup.

My goal was to fix the door without taking it completely apart. Removing the outer plastic panels took about 10 minutes of a 2-hour project for both doors. Bent a small paper clip and hooked under the corner of the yellow tab to remove the leftmost cable holder. The cable holder in the top had push-in tabs. These parts did not exactly fit the cable, so I used a long pair of needle nose pliers and a screwdriver and a hammer to expand them then re-tightened with pliers once they were on the cable – they were still very, very snug and required a lot of force to install using 2 pairs of pliers. A couple of other notes- (1) I peeled back the bottom part of the plastic and put some WD-40 on the bottom latch/cable which seemed to help. (2) On the top cable there was a yellow plastic piece on the cable between 2 pieces of tape. I had to replace this with a twist tie for the door to work (see video). My method was to leave the top cable completely disconnected then use the handle and manually pull the top cable to first prove the bottom one was working then fix the top. I only rated this product 4 of 5 stars, since one part is different from the other 3 (see photo) and there were instructions or explanation for this. But overall a good purchase since the doors now open!

Rather swop cables on 2000 Ford expedition, I bought these. Worked like a charm. You may have to slightly dermal or file to fit as tolerances are tight but a long term cheap fix worth every penny..

There are several videos on You Tube so you can see what you’re getting into. Nothing difficult, just a bit time consuming.
Remember each door takes four, and there is one of these that is machined a bit differently than the others. It goes on the top latch and takes a twist to hold it in place on the bracket.
I am confident these will last the life of the vehicle and I’ll never have a rear door that I can’t open again.

Ford trucks and Econoline vans from the late 90s to early 2000s have an issue of the door suddenly being stuck closed because the cables from the handles to the latches have plastic connectors that deteriorate over time from age and temperature extremes (think heat in Texas with occasional ice storms) and when they deteriorate, originally, new cables had to be purchased from Ford that are a couple of hundred dollars each and they come with the same plastic connectors that will break in the future. These ferrule kits allow for a permanent fix to be installed on the original cables (as long as someone hasn’t damaged the cable trying to fix it!) and this will never be an issue with any of these doors in the future. And absolute upgrade and it is extremely inexpensive. Best product idea ever!! Best fix for a truck or van that is otherwise built Ford Tough!
They are fairly easy to install if you know have automotive repair knowledge, if you don’t, your mechanic will know and directions for installing can be Googled!
These ferrules are so durable that the doors will never frustrate you again in future with suddenly being stuck closed!
