Since customer referrals prompted me to try the product I thought I would add something to guide others. This is the best general-purpose lubricant/anti-corrosive you can get. I stay away from harsh chemicals because I know they are a horrible idea in the long-run. This product satisfies my desire for less toxic, more eco-friendly products. But it also works better than a synthetic, toxic product. The only lubrication use I don’t use this for is hard-working metal on metal teeth in a gear to pinion situation. It would probably do well there but I still use a soy-based white lithium grease for that particular situation. Thus this product is used mostly for bare metal parts that shouldn’t get painted but still need to resist rusting. Fantastic product.

use the applicator and it’s mess free. Lille fling, doesn’t attract dirt. It does stink when you handling it. Unless I find something better this is my chain lube for life.

If you are anything like me, Fluid Film is the best, hands down, ABSOLUTELY NO COMPETITION, let me explain why.
First, when it comes to buying certain products, anything that I’m going to use frequently, maybe something that I expect to use until I die, lol…. I am EXTREMELY OCD. For example: my 11th birthday was coming up soon, and I’d just discovered MacGyver…. the ONLY REAL McGyver, Richard Dean Anderson! LOL… naturally, I wanted a Swiss Army Knife. But, which one?!!
Ruh roh, Raggy!
Now, this was pre-Internet. So, for the next two months, I caught reruns every chance I got, spent at least two to four hours a week at the library, and called every knife shop, pawn shop and Army surplus store within 50 miles so many t8mes, they all knew me by name….. I wish that was hyperbole. Alas, I assure you, dear reader, it is not! LOL…
Why do mention that?
Because, on my 11th birthday, I got my Swiss Army Knife, the Victorinox “Huntsman.” It’s still being made, but the tools have changed a few times over the years. That knife was in my pocket, every day, all day, until I graduated high school. Times were different. LOL.. All through college, every date, my wedding, and the birth of my two sons, and is sitting on my nightstand as I type this. If I say “THIS. IS. AWESOME!” you’d better believe, it’s awesone!
Fluid Film? IT. IS. AWESOME!
Are there any products as good? Absolutely. Similar price range, the whole shebang. But, not for the same reasons, and not for what I need. I’m the “outdoors” guy. Camping, thru-hikes, that sort of thing. And, I have a bit of an aversion to toxic chemicals on my knives and tools. My Swiss Army Knife, my fixed-blade, Bitch are always with me, and get used for everything, including food prep. Other oils, especially those that are made SPECIFICALLY to be monsters when it comes toncorrosion protection, are almost unanimously highly toxic. Now, they have their place, but that place is not on my knives.
If I’m dicing veggies, cutting a stark, whatever, I just wipe off any excess Fluid Film, and start cutting. After dinner, clean my knives, put a little Fluid Film on my finger or rag, wipe ‘em down….
Bam! Done!
It’s non toxic. I’m not saying bathe in it, or put a splash in your soda, but used like I described, you’ll be fine, no worries. Other oils, those, like Fluid Film, that are destined to provide extreme rust and corrosion protection, cling to the metal and not easily wash off, not so much. Don’t take word for it. Crack your knuckles, and get ta’ “Google-ing!”
I guarantee, if you find another corrosion protection/rust prevention product that even COMES CLOSE to working as well as Fluid Film, do a quick search about its toxicity, and you’ll see what I mean. And, frankly, health concerns aside, IT WORKS!
I’ve seen many tests… you know, they get a bunch of metal plates, put a different oil on each one, and at the end of one or two months, show the results. Fluid Film kicks butt, every time. And, in those instances where another product dies about as well, maybe even a bit better at rust/corrosion protection, once you find out what’s in it, you won’t sleep for a week. Cyanjde is probably safer!
What I ABSOLUTELY love, though, is how it works itself into the deepest, tiniest nooks and crannies. I had read Fluid Films claims (you put it on, and it will get into places you cannot reach, and protect your item) and I was skeptical. That’s just me, I’m a skeptic. What sold me? Well, as I said, I spend a lot of time outside, camping mostly. And, I’m a bit absentminded. So, years ago, after an unpleasant incident with a spray can of very famous oil that I left too close to the campfire, I’ve used non-aerosol versions of rust protection oils everysince. Now, I’ve tried several over the years, and if they don’t come in a bottle that seals well, with a rubber ring or something, I’ll put them in a better container, toss ‘em in my pack, and I’m good to go. This particular version of Fluid Film comes in a tough little metal container, brush attached to the inside of the lid, and a stout rubber seal on the inside of the lid, as well.
Cool.
Tossed it into my bag, mane forgot about it. A few days later, Ives’s going through my gear, packing for a camping trip, and reached into the bag to grab the Fluid Film. I had oil on my fingers!
What?!!
Checked it. Shut tightly. Checked the rubber seal. Perfect. So, I cleaned it up, sealed it tightly, and purposefully laid it on its side. Next morning, a bit of oil had worked it’s way UNDER THE RUBBER SEAL! Now, no huge mess! This isn’t a negative! I’ve tossed countless bottles of oil into bags, bike bags, you name it, and never had so much as a drop leak out. But, when Fluid Film says “it will work it’s way into all the nooks and crannies,” they mean it!
So, if you are Knife nut, like me, or have gear that you are obsessed with keeping clean and protected from rust and corrosion, this if the product for you. I have a few REALLY NICE KNIVES. And, knives have scales (the handle material), that are not typically removable. The downside is that, over time, no matter how well you care for them, the moisture from the air, oils from your skin, water splashed on them wile fording a river, you will get rust under the knife scales, and over time, it can do some damage.
Not anymore! LOL… you put a thick layer Fluid Film on those knife handles, let them sit a couple of days. If Fluid Film can work it’s way out of a jar, sealed as tightly as I could twist, and still bypass that rubber seal……. you gear will thank you, because it will get into places you never could before, guaranteed! My Vixtorinix has a plastic handle, I have a few that are micarta, bone… it’s done great in everything. If you’re worried about a certain material, and how Fluid Film will react to it, do a quick search, or just email Fluid Film. They are fantastic, have years of experience, and will reply very quickly. If they know about a material, and how it interacts with their product, they’ll let you know all the facts.
I’m a KNUFE NUT… LOVE ‘EM, and I’ve never been this impressed, or written so much, about any of my BELOVED knives! LOL… It is a great product, it lives up to the hype, I’ve already purchased another can, and one can, just like my Victorinox, is with me 24/7, I KID YOU NOT!

The product itself is great for protecting metal tools, etc. Be careful, though, as the lid can be a little loose and it will leak a little.

On a lot of frame bolts on my jeep.. we will see how well it works after our winter in Maine.. Maine uses a salt mixture with other chemicals to salt our roads.. it can eat any thing it hits.. a new car will start to show corrosion in about 2 years depending on how often you wash your car. So hopefully this stuff will last a winter. Having to under coat your car every 1-2 years is a pain. So I thought I would try Fluid film. At least this stuff is way cheaper and stays wet. Hoping the waters and salted roads just drop of my new frame I just put in.

Love this stuff. All my locks are super smooth, car doors don’t make a sound and wow, it waterproofs everything leather. Best part, get it on your hands no need to run to the sink, just rub it in, its just sheep hair oil, other wise known as Lanolin.

Great product, more economical & much easier to apply exactly where needed than the spray can.

Used for undercoating my car. Worked well!
