This stuff works awesome! I do wish you would ship this quantity in a larger bucket. If I were to put something sizeable in this one, it would overflow. So I dumped this into a 5 gallon bucket and now it’s perfect.

Wow does this stuff work! I picked up a very old railroad lantern that had seen a lot of years outside and was rusted from top to bottom, inside and out. It was so bad that the burner was rusted in place and the knob to raise the wick would not budge. I removed the glass and sank the entire lamp in the pail and left it there for 24 hours. When I removed it from the pail, I used a tooth brush to get the gunk out of the small spaces, then gave it a quick rinse. There was not a speck of rust left anywhere!!. It also freed up the burner so it was simple to remove and the wick knob now moves smoothly as well. Attached is a picture of the finished lantern (I am not a pro). I wish I would have taken a ‘before’ picture for comparison. Overall, I have nothing but praise for this product.
For anyone considering this, I highly recommend it. Just keep in mind this product is not designed to be a quick rust remover. If you want something that you spray on and it immediately works, or the project you are working on is too large to be dropped into the pail, look elsewhere. However, if you want something that is environmentally safe, does not hurt your skin when you get it on you, and requires very little effort, this is exactly what you are looking for.
Lastly, I have seen some reviews stating that almost immediately after rinsing, rust starts to form again. So far, I have cleaned up three separate items and only one of them started rusting within two hours. I was prepared for that so it was not an issue, but be aware that is definitely a possibility and be prepared.

Evapo-Rust works really well. Here pictured is a Hub that had no paint left on it and needed some serious attention. Before and after. Value wise I think the product is on the expensive side I’d love to be able to actually have more than the 3.5 Gallon. If 25 Gallon Plastic Drums were available(with a cheaper $/Gal) I would have gone that route.
How I used Evapo-Rust.
I first soaked the Hub in mineral spirits for 24 hours in a 2.5 Gallon bucket. After removing the hub from mineral spirits I rinsed it using distilled water in a parts cleaner then dried and with compressed air. After dry and free of loose material I put the entire hub directly into the 3.5 Gallon bucket and let it sit for 48 hours (Lid Closed)
What you see in the second picture is the end result. Overall happy with the results and have worked with other items using the very limited 3.5 gallons I’m impressed with how reusable the product is though I think that has to do with me first cleaning everything in spirits beforehand.
I don’t recommend trying to use this in any type of spay on application as it runs easily and dries wasting the liquid. It works very well in a soak style. This liquid will evaporate. Keep the lid sealed as much as you can. I was worried about air build up during the chemical reaction process I installed a ball valve into the lid using a tap. It does build up a little bit of pressure from the reaction(or temperature change) better safe than sorry.

Best rust remover I have ever used. If it is small enough to be dropped in the bucket, it will come out rust-free. Depending on how much rust something has on it, it may take over 24 hours to get it off, but if you leave it in long enough, it will come out rust-free. And there are no worries about leaving it in too long. I accidently left a small delicate piece soaking for over a month and did absolutely no damage to the piece itself. Highly recommend.

I bought the 3.5 gallon Evapo-Rust and tested it on large nails (about 120 penny size) that had been rusting for about 20 to 30 years and had heavy caked rust. Instructions say leave item soaking in the liquid for 30 minutes to 12 hours depending upon how badly it is rusted. Well, after a couple of days it had not removed the bad stuff. There was a lot of sediment on the bottom of the bottle I was using to treat the nails, so I knew it was working. I forgot about it for 3 months. I removed ithe 2 nails from the liquid this morning, rinsed and wiped them with a shop cloth to remove the black muddy/slimy stuff that had once been rust. The results were outstanding. Bare metal was perfect. No rust. Metal was rough and pitted where there had been rust, but now just bare metal. Yes, it took longer than 12 hours, but I am satisfied with the end results. I purchased this to fill my motorcycle gas tank with to remove the rust inside – which I’ll do this afternoon. Yeah, I’ll leave it in there for about a month just to be sure. I’ve attached pictures of the nails. The nails were partly submerged. You can see the difference between the metal/rust where the nails were submerged and not submerged. These nails had been laying underground in my backyard for 20 to 30 years rusting. I found them when I was excavating the backyard last fall during a landscaping project and decided to save the large nails. I am very satisfied with Evapo-Rust and will use it for my rust removal projects where I don’t want to deform the metal by grinding or sanding.
