I’ll update this review as long as I own my 2004 Civic (which God help me, may change to a newer car soon 😉 )…
My Civic 1.7 has the dreaded head gasket issue, so its two inner cylinders leak positive pressure into the coolant jacket when hot under load. It’s barely there but the telltale is a slight oiliness when popping the rad cap, and buildup of extra coolant in the overflow tank (also, listen for gurgling air in the heater core on hi-heat). Have had this car five years now and hasn’t gotten *worse*… but as you can imagine the extra drops of coolant in the chamber when idling in traffic or climbing steep grades, hasn’t exactly been friendly to the plugs — and by extension, the coils…
My poor car had the grace to give me a nice firm warning rather than strand me, so I got onto Amazon as soon as I felt the misfire. This car has OEM Denso plugs rated for a five-year swap interval… and I was definitely there (those -M11 plugs are $30 EACH at the dealer, ~$15 EACH here). Sure enough, the plugs had some wear on the center electrode but very slight as they were the burly OEMs… but coil-on-plug coils are way more finicky than the pony-can coils your grandpa had on his Barracuda. Saw these were unnervingly inexpensive compared to OEM (which are $60 EACH)… but ratings were good, so pulled the trigger…
As expected, yanking the 15-yr-old coils and 5-yr-old plugs, showed I’d become numb to deterioration in the ignition parts, like a frog in a pot of water — problems with shifting at idle, power steering, brakes, and fuel economy thought to be separate problems, were all related to how well each cylinder was pulling its weight. Had to be, because once these coils and new -L11 Denso plugs went in (identical to the OEM Honda -M11, except for a slightly beefier ground electrode — and less than $8 for 4 plugs 😉 ), all of those problems disappeared.
It’s been a week II was admitted dreading every stoplight, thinking I’d gotten had by junk sellers on Amazon. But these coils fit and performed EXACTLY like the OEMs without problems (so far — it doesn’t freeze here). Better yet, the car hasn’t run this well in a very long time — my max mpg (120mi / half tank) I used to have to granny and shut off A/C to get, for literally years, is now effortless — as are many other power-related aspects, like passing, and cruising at 60-65. When you have a *slight* misfire in not one but two intermittent cylinders… apparently this generation Honda is much more sensitive to it than my old Toyotas were.
Welp, will update if there’re any problems. I honestly feel the owners who badmouthed this prolly put these new coils atop worn plugs, and killed them just like they would’ve killed an OEM coil — except you can get 4 of these, shipped, for the price of one OEM coil… and get a footlong Subway w/ the change. If you’re gonna swap your coils, get eight -L11 Denso plugs at the same time (PKJ20CR-L11, $7.49 here 01/25/19), and swap them every 2 yrs 😉

My 2003 Honda Civic LX 1.7L had been having starting issues for a few months. It would start when it wanted to. Price checked with AutoZone, OReillys, & Advance Auto. All of them priced $50-60 for ONE! This was a great deal. This morning about 7am, I got in the car to pick up my boyfriend from work & it would not start. Usually after I give it a few tries it’ll start up but it didn’t. Sooo glad the ignition coils came about 330p today & I was able to change them out along with the spark plugs with ease. After installing which took me about an hour, my car started right on up!! I drove it around & it drove perfectly! I let it run and it purred like a cat! Thank you Amazon for this one day delivery! Also came with diaelectric grease.

So far after installation and running and driving it for an hour no issues and no check engine light. I’ve only recently replaced my spark plugs so this was the only thing that hasn’t been replaced. I checked my spark plugs and they were still good. Idle somehow is better which I am very pleased with. The start had no issues she fired up right quick after I replaced the ignition coils so very happy with that as well. So far as durability I’ll update this review in a few months but this marks as the first day. I installed them on my 2002 Honda Civic LX and it has been my daily driver since college she a champ of a car. Thank you so much for the quality parts 🙂 🙂 🙂 I don’t really know what the Sheerness review is about so I just skipped that. So far as Value for money goes that will also get updated since this will be the only time that my car has had it’s ignition coils replaced since 2002. But as it stands I definitely recommend this product.
