When I first ordered this item they sent 2 and charged me double. The left side support snapped off shortly after I returned the extra item, and the heavy back door almost snapped my neck when it collapsed on me. I tried to return it but “Amazon Support” wouldn’t authorize a return because they already marked it returned from the previous over-order. This went on a few days and by the time I talked to a live voice the 30 day warranty was over.
You get what you pay for and a lot of people seem to be happy with their purchase.
All I feel I bought was a lesson in “being had”. That’s an awful lot of advertising and boasting for a company that can only warranty a highly stressed safety item for 30 days. Were all those 5 star reviews from relatives?

Got them for my dad for father’s day so he’d stop smacking his head on his trunk. Quick 5 minute install and suddenly his forehead was no longer in danger from his old, fading hydraulic lifts on his tailgate. Installed on a Lexus Rx300 instead of an OEM part and they worked perfectly. Would recommend.

The place of holes on this product doesn’t match to holes for installation on my Lexus RX300 2001.

You’ll need a 10 mm ratcheting socket and crescent wrench and not much more than that. You’ll need a stepladder too for the person holding the door. The new part was about half an inch longer because the strut wasn’t blown out like the old one as shown in the picture.
was a tad bit inconvenient lining up the holes while having someone hold the door, but it took us less than an hour and gave us an extra 4 inches of clearance under the door. The door doesn’t want to close on its own, unlike the old parts, and it was very cheap, but quality parts

The first thing I noticed was the new struts were longer than the originals so I discarded any thought of replacing just one. I spent some time making a prop to hold the door open while working. I removed both of the old struts. I then fastened the new struts on the door frame. I removed the ball mounts from both new struts by removing the spring clips. I fastened both ball mounts to door. To connect the new strut to the ball the door must be raised to get it into the socket. Be prepared for the prop to fall so you must re position the prop to hold the door up. Re-install the spring clip. Repeat for the other strut and ball. The pictures show one new strut connected to the door frame with the ball mount off. the second shows the ball mount in the correct position. When using this method you do not need to drill new holes. Everything lines up. The door will now open higher than before on my 2001 Lexus RX300.

They arrived earlier than expected. A bit different than factory installed originals, however, with a little work able to get them in place and they work! No more hatch falling on my head ! I would buy again

As with the hood supports, these rear lift gate supports needed replacement when I bought the Lexus used. I didn’t know, since they were listed as fits my car, that fitting my car meant finding a way to force the struts into the open position. If I had measured the extension these would have been approximately 3/16″ too long and it was impossible to compress the struts. Instead I had to change them one at a time and use the closing tailgate to compress the struts minimally, hold the strut into position manually, and then jockey the bracket until it lined up. A 10-15 minute replacement took over half an hour each. it was very difficult, a less patient person might have damaged the strut or drilled new holes. I was able to eventually get the bracket to line up. Also the bracket and strut does not match the original movement but it does work. The hinges prevent the gate from opening too far, if dependent on the strut to stop, it wouldn’t work.
