Ain’t pretty but does the job. I like the coil spring vs the older spiral spring. I like a bit more tension for 6000 reps so another hole is drilled in mounting bracket but not to far. Belt will expand and contract. Remove coil, move wires. Mount tensioner, pencil mark both points for under tension and static to ensure travel distance. Drill a hole 1/4” counter clockwise on mounting steel bracket. Not on the Tensioner! Spray some lube into underside of tensioner and mount.

This belt tensioner with pulley fit my trusty old work truck with no problems whatsoever. Exact model of my truck is 98 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie SLT, 5.2 Liter engine, 2 wheel drive. I considered a “Gates” belt tensioner for almost twice the price, but this one seems to be just as good as my OEM tensioner. All tabs abd holes were identical to the part I replaced. Install was simple (move belt! then one 15mm nut) The hardest part was locating my swivel ratchet and reaching that nut.
Also, if you are buying this for a squeaky belt you may face multiple possibilities! but it is likely that this component is necessary. I replaced this and my idler pulley, and I am happy with my results. Also, check the belt itself for problems. Good luck chasing that horrible screeching noise made by some older Dodge trucks.

When I first opened the box I thought the part looked a little cheap (but so is my truck) but on closer examination I think this part will do the job well and it seems to be built well enough to work for quite a few years. I took off just a star for the fact I still think the part appears to be a little cheap, but then most car parts from China have that appearance. For half the price of a brand name, I think it will just fine.

Fits perfectly installs in 20 to 30 minutes. Makes serpentine belt run quiet and smooth.

This product delivered just what it said it would and in a couple of hours, I was back on the road in my 1998 Dodge Ram 1500. YouTube also had a great instructional video.

It fit perfectly and easy installation. Great product for a good price.

I cleaned pulleys and replaced this tensioner assembly along with the belt. Easy in, working nicely.
This is the second time I’ve had a tensioner wear out after about 100,000 miles, so I’ll be replacing it every 80k from now on. 15mm socket with long ratchet or breaker. 10mm socket gets the starter coil out of the way. 2002 Dodge Dakota 3.9L Club Cab SXT.
