Usually when I see poor reviews for auto parts I assume that the people doing the job simply don’t have much experience and can’t figure out how to install the part correctly. That’s not the case with this brake cable.

The mounting end on the cable that slips through the parking brake lever at the drum literally slips out as soon as you put any tension on the cable. I had to put it in my vise and reshape the aluminum end to properly engage in the lever. Instead of it being a dogleg like OEM it is simply a lazy 90.

The return spring also appears to be 25% longer than the OEM cable. I trimmed mine because honestly I don’t think you could put the proper tension on the cable without the spring binding and limiting travel.

I even checked the Dorman part catalog after I received it to make sure I got the right number since it looks so different. It is definitely the cable listed for my application. The picture from the part catalog does not match the current design. I am usually fine with Dorman parts but they definitely dropped the ball on this one.

After modifying the end and the spring it seems to work fine, but that shouldn’t be necessary.

The e cable on my truck snapped, near the rear drivers side tire. Super easy to reinstall. Just slides back into the brake housing on back side of drum housing and slides into place connecting to the other half of the cable under the truck. A little tightening of the e cable at the drums and tensioner and BAM! A working emergency brake again. Miracles never cease to amaze me….

This aftermarket cable is a perfect fit and much cheaper than a dealership delivered one. Got it to replace a broken one in my Ram Quad Cab, due to normal wear after several years of duty. Very happy with this product.

Using the Amazon fit guide and the Dorman guide (VIN Specific) these cables did not fit my 2003 Ram 1500 4X4 w/140.5″ wheelbase. Once installed, would not adjust it enough to get the brakes to work. Replaced with Mopar cables – works fine.

The part fit well. Ordered late and rec’d next day and I’m out in the country. Will use Dormans again.

recently installed the Dorman C660117 Rear Driver Side Parking sensor on my car, and I have to say, it was a pretty smooth experience overall. Right out of the box, it felt like a quality piece—solid construction and everything you need for installation was included.

Putting it in was straightforward. I appreciated that the instructions were clear, and I didn’t have to look up anything online. Once it was in place, I tested it out, and it worked perfectly. The sensor is responsive and helps me avoid those pesky parking mishaps.

What I like most is how it blends in, looking just like the original part. It has been functioning without any issues since I installed it. For anyone looking to replace their rear parking sensor, I’d definitely recommend giving this one a shot. It’s reliable and got my car back on the road without a hitch!

I purchased both cables at the recommendation of the service department adviser when my truck “failed” inspection for parking brakes not engaging. Brake cables? Really? Well, I’ve never been one to let them up-sell me, and I could see in his eyes that was the deal. I told them I would do the work myself and bring the truck back when I had fixed it. Their parts were of course triple the cost of these, never mind the labor.

So it turns out that several parts were seized and I had to take nearly the entire parking brake system apart. I can only imagine what THAT would have cost at the dealership. Driver side brake shoes were gone – completely gone. Passenger side were about half-worn. About half of all moving parts were rusted and seized.

After over an hour of oiling and WD-40 I got them all moving smoothly and put the whole thing back together with new shoes and cables. Now the brakes hold like they are supposed to.

About the boot. At the brake end of the cable is a retention spring and INSIDE THAT is a little rubber boot which fits over the cable as it exits the sheath. If that boot is not secured over the fitting before installation, forget about it. It is a beast to get properly fit. Other than that the parts when together no problem.

This is the same design cable you’ll find most places, but the OEM design is better as the hook part actually has two bends instead of one simple bend like this one. This design allows the cable to easily slip out of the lever bracket behind the wheel when the parking brake is applied. This design could even be improved if it was simply a 90 degree bend, then it wouldnt slip out. I have to be careful how hard I apply parking brake bc if I push to hard it slips out (and yes it’s been adjust at equalizer and at the drum itself).

I looked up the size I needed for my truck, got the one that was rated for my truck… got one that’s too long for my truck. Even at the tightest setting it doesn’t work.
