Diagnosed an increasingly more frequent starting issue with our car. Reliable starting got so iffy that could not start the car at all; luckily, I got the car started (one last time) without requiring a tow.
After diagnosis and some help from the Tube, decided to order this replacement part. The repair/replacement took longer than I thought; but, more due to trim removal / reinstall than this part. All said and done; starting issue is solved, starts each and every time. This part was an exact replacement to the OEM discontinued part. Next day delivery from Amazon was great!

Excellent replacement for my 2010 Ford Escape. Dorman clames they beefed up the parts that wear out on the factory switch. Just a few things that may help. You can change it with out removing the steering wheel and air bag. Used a dremel with a small reinforced cutoff wheel to cut a small notch in the steering column lock
bolt. It does not need to be very deep at all. Then used a flat screwdriver to remove. They usually come right out very easily. You need a small 1/4″ ratchet with a 5.5 mm socket to get the bolts out that hold the lock cylinder. Had to use a 5.5 ignition wrench to finish getting the one bolt out of the one in front of the lock cylinder because the ratchet gets binded up after a few turns. If you have a really small 1/4″ ratchet you can get it out without the wrench. Take time to align the notch on the steering column with the one on the lock cylinder. If its right there should not be hardly any gap when the latch is shut. This uses your old lock cylinder so you don’t have to re-key.Fixed all my issues. No more pushing in and jiggling the key.

Went in easily and worked well. Saved money over OEM.

The 5mm screw hole on my unit was not tapped, so attaching the turn signal housing proved difficult. Other than that, the unit works great and fixes the dreaded ignition issue. This was also the perfect time to install a new steering wheel as our leather wrapped OEM was dingy. I swapped for a vinyl OEM that can easily be cleaned. Note – the cruise control controls on my old steering wheel were opposite of the new one. Just popped out the old controls and swapped the new ones. Try doing that on a new vehicle! These older hybrids are gold. Easy to work on and parts are cheap.

I bought this for my 08 Escape, as it was having ignition problems (wouldn’t start unless I pushed the key towards the steering column while turning key). I chose Dorman because I have bought other products from them, and they have always worked and fit perfectly, and this part was no exception. Actually installing this is kind of easy, there are YouTube videos out there that show you how. Most say you have to remove the steering wheel, but I was able to replace it without removed the steering wheel, so be sure to look around for a video that gives THOSE instructions. This ignition lock part also includes the security bolt, so no need to purchase it separately. The only tricky part is that it arrives with the key position in the “on” position, which does not let you install the key barrel from your old lock. You have to find pliers, a wrench, a fat stick, whatever (I used a trim tool) to move it to the AUX position, and the barrel will drop right in.

I purchased and installed the Dorman 989-019 Ignition Lock Housing and the Dorman 924-710 Ignition Lock Cylinder.
Recently purchased 2008 Ford Escape. Within a week, the dreadded (and common) ignition switch problem developed (the ignition switch can be turned but the vehicle won’t turn over). Apparently, this had been a problem for the previous owner as I discovered that the ignition lock cylinder was glued into the original ignition lock housing. It became impossible to merely replace the ignition lock cylinder.
I contacted a dealer regarding the cost remedy this problem and was given an estimate of $1500 so I decided to replace the lock housing unit and ignition lock cylinder myself. I chose the Dorman units because they actually have a YouTube channel with plenty of videos (showed me a commitment engage their customers) and thereviews were good.
The ignition lock housing unit itself came complete with the security bolt. The new ignition lock cylinder fit easily into the new housing unit. It took a little patience to wiggle the original housing unit from the streering column (the toughest part involved removing the original security bolt – I cut a slot into the top of it then used a screw driver) but I was able to without removing the steering wheel. I simply reversed those steps to install the new housing unit onto the steering column.
The new ignition housing unit, combined with a new ignition lock cylinder, works like new and I have had zero reoccurences of the problem.
The only criticism I have is of the instructions that came with the ignition lock cylinder because the photos were very dark – virtually useless. This could be easily remedied.
Overall, I saved a significant sum of money completing this project on my own and would recommend this/these products.

Worked great.
7/32 socket and about an hour of time.
Just make sure you light up the key cylinder with the tumbler on ignition itself when switching key over.

This was a perfect fit for my 2009 Ford escape hybrid. Watch the video and did not have to take off the steering wheel. Had it put on at about 15 minutes and I didn’t have to take off the steering wheel.
