These fit with no modification. I marked where the old one was on the cable then put these on at the mark. Also, the plastic pin in the lower half of trim will come out clean if you push the little pin in the center in about 1/4 inch. No need to pry it out and damage it as everyone on YouTube does. I ordered two sets and did both lower and upper on both doors. Not a bad job, just take your time. You will need a torx 27 bit for the latches. There are three bolts on each latch. I tied a piece of small rope on the upper assemblies when I pulled it out the top side. It made feeding the repaired cable easier to put back in. On the bottom latches I put a 1 inch Allen bolt in one hole to help with lining it back up. I also removed the speakers to make things easier. Good luck and do replace them all while you’re in there because all of mine were deteriorating pretty bad… Note: the one that is made different in each kit, goes on the top cable at the latch 😉

For my truck, I had to unscrew the 2 Philips heads screws for the rear doors window latch, and then pop that panel behind it off. Then I took off a 10mm nut, 2 screws, and a plastic fastener, which will let me pop off the lower panel (lifted up and out), and (very carefully) pulling back the vapor barrier so as not to destroy the sealant. Once that was done I could look for the issue. For me, it was at the handle mechanism in the middle at the back of the door, and the bottom latch release mechanism. The dumb plastic holder that fits around the latch cable and holds it in place was falling apart. Dang it Ford. I cut the rest of the plastic faster thing type deal off with a box cutter so I could use this part to replace it.
Like others have said, this doesn’t quite fit over the cable housing. I took some needle nose pliers, stuck those in the opening, and opened them a couple times to bend it open a to give it more room. I then slid this on each end, over the cable sheathing except for the end which goes just over the wire, as tight as I could get it to the sheathing, tested it, then re-tightened and crimped it down a bit with pliers. There’s a notch in both mechanisms where the head of this part fits into to hold the cable in place. It didn’t slide all the way in for me, but good enough to be fairly sturdy. I originally replaced the worse of the 2, which only worked for about a week before I had to replace the other; I’d do both if I had to do it over.
I didn’t have to take the seat beat or anything else off, and other than being a bit tight getting everything cleaned up and positioned on the bottom latch mechanism (I’d do that one first) it wasn’t too bad… there was plenty of space to work on the upper.

Product solved the problem at a great price. The process for the fix is a lot easier if you look at U-Tube videos beforehand. Will save you hundreds of dollars in repair costs at a dealership. JD

I’ve used these on my ’02 F150 and my neighbor’s ’03 Ranger. They’re well made and work great. For those unfamiliar with this problem, these are used to fix the small “suicide” doors on extended cab trucks when they stop opening. The reason the doors stop opening is the OEM plastic cable ends get brittle as they age and eventually crumble. It only takes one of the cable ends to fail and the door won’t open. There are 4 cable ends in each door: 1 at the upper latch; 1 at the lower latch; and two in the middle of the door at the handle. Replace them all at once while you’ve got it torn apart, even if only one failed. The others are just a matter of time – trust me. I also recommend removing the upper and lower latches to make replacement easier. When I replaced these in my F150 I did one door with the latches installed, learned my lesson, and removed the latches when I did the other door – much easier.
The factory/OEM plastic cable ends look very similar to the aluminum replacements. In my case the plastic ends were completely gone (besides a few broken pieces), which is why I don’t have a pic of the original plastic end. My pics are an ’03 Ranger. On the Rangers, you DON’T have to remove the rivets holding the door handle in place. If you look carefully at the mounting area for the cable ends at the door handle, you’ll notice the front of the mounting area is fixed, but the rear of the mounting area will slide back out of the way once you release the small tab above and below it with a small screwdriver or pick. That will allow you to get the new cable end in place, then use a small hook/angled pick to pull/slide the rear mounting area back into place (over the new cable end) and snap into place.

As the title says my application was a 98 f150 extended cab passenger side rear door. Part was perfect. I saw videos and reviews wherein people had a beast of a time trying to get cable ends on the cable – these fit mine perfectly and slid into place with minimal effort; you have to get rid of all the debris left over by the old ends but it breaks off easily. I did give this five stars for ease of installation but if you have very large hands you would argue with that – Ford’s fault not the part. Best advice is be patient and allow yourself enough time for the job. It took me about an hour and that included trying to get the door open but I allotted myself an entire afternoon. Beware most videos don’t show how to get the door open. I’m not going to try to give a tutorial here but watch several videos cause you’ll wind up having to use a little bit from each one. Pay particular attention to the top latch, that’s the odd cable end and it is necessary to use the right one – this kit does come with all the correct ends. BTW you do not have to remove the cable from the top or bottom latch, that’s asking for trouble, you can pull enough slack in the sheath to install the new ends. I did not remove the whole latch and cable from the truck as there is plenty of slack to work with. Anyone with reasonable skills can do this repair. Good luck.
