5 stars for being able to re-key to the original key without having to change door locks.
1 star for door dinger ringing when the key is out. Read the directions..The torx trick to seating the small ball works great. My tumblers were hard to read numbers . I had to tweak a few tumblers with a file to turn smooth.
Bottom line I would buy it again.

Good product. Easy to install on this vehicle. Works great just like new.

This worked perfect for my 2005 Ford Taurus. One of the tumblers in my old cylinder broke into pieces. The Dorman came with instructions and new tumblers. Since my key has a chip, I needed to re-key the new Dorman cylinder to fit my old key. The tumblers are numbered in my old cylinder and in the new Dorman which is a big help, and I was able to read the number on the broken tumbler. When you remove the tumblers from your old cylinder, write down the numbers in order removed. I used all new tumblers in the Dorman and they worked perfect. This saved me a few hundred dollars since I was able to do this repair myself.

This was purchased for a Ford product that Amazon showed did not fit, although the Dorman site and several other auto sites said that it did. I could not find another switch that could be re-keyed besides this one for my car. If you don’t mind carrying around an extra key, you can probably buy a switch for your car for about $20 dollars, but I wanted to use the same key.

The ignition that was taken out of the car had “tumblers” that were not shaped anything like the Dorman, and there were only 6 tumblers in mine, while 7 in the Dorman. However the sizes of both switches were the same. Dorman does not document this at all, and I thought the instructions were a little vague, even if your old switch looks exactly like theirs.

In case you have a similar situation, may work for you: Since the old switch tumblers did not match, and there were only 6 in the old one, I started at tumbler number 7 (you will know what I mean when you see the directions), and worked my way towards outside of the switch. Put the old key in the Dorman, then by trial and error kept putting in and taking out the Dorman tumblers and the key till I found a match with 6 of the tumblers (the Dorman tumblers have numbers on them, so pretty easy). This took about 20 minutes. Since the old one only had 6 tumblers, I left out the tumbler closest to the outside of the switch. Put the switch back together, put back in the car and everything worked. The only mistake I made was not putting all of the grease on the tumblers, so I had to take the switch out, re-grease, then reinstall (only about 10 minutes).

You can look this up on Youtube, but to remove many Ford lock cylinders, there is a hole in the bottom of the plastic that surrounds the steering column under the bottom of the switch. Find a small screw driver, or a punch to push in on the silver ball that you can see in the hole, then pull out the switch. Key must be in the switch. Make a note of the position of the key and the switch before you take it out, and this will save you some time. After you figure this out the first time, it takes about 30 seconds the next time. For me, there were no other parts to remove.

After watching the installation video it took a couple of minutes to install and rehook up the battery! Problem was with the anti-theft feature … it wouldn’t start! I had to call a locksmith out to have a chipped key made and re-programmed to get the truck running again! I still saved money in the long run! I talked to Dorman Tech support and they were very informative and gave me the solution immediately. This is the second Dorman part I have ordered on Amazon! I am very pleased!

    Fit perfectly and functioning properly

Good fit, good quality. I was able to have it re-keyed by a local locksmith to fit my OEM transponder key. Now I have well working lock. Special thanks to another Amazon reviewer I was able to learn this cylinders can be re-keyed.

    Dorman 924-724 Ignition Lock Cylinder.
My 1999 F350 Super Duty was stolen and the ignition cylinder was destroyed. This replacement fit perfectly but instead of paying for new matching door and tailgate locks, I rekeyed the ignition cylinder to match the truck’s original keys. Very easy to do, with a wafer rekey kit. Amazon.ca didn’t have the rekey kit but perhpas in the future they will stock it. If you decide to go this route, check YouTube for instructions (again, very easy but it really speeds up the process if you don’t have to figure it out yourself.) Make sure you get the proper wafer kit for your style of cylinders; Ford used “rail” and “non-rail” wafers in their trucks over the years. My 1999 is a non-rail. Now I need to figure out what to do with my rekey kit…I have enough wafers to rekey about 50 locks!! It was still cheaper than buying new door/tailgate cylinders, and I learned something about locksmithing in the process.
