Worked great, instructions were so-so, but if you’re like me you watch a lot of different “how to” videos. Keyed the new cylinder to my key and no issues, been about a week or so.
I have a 2004 F150 Lariat, couldn’t just poke up through the hole to release the cylinder, had to pull off the top and bottom shrouds on the steering wheel and the kick panel below that, take out the screw that holds the computer chip reader and remove the reader to get at the release hole. Got the cylinder out and disassembled per instructions, hard to read the numbers on the old tumbler pieces due to wear. If it is your first time I suggest going slow and methodical, no TV and no Car Talk radio, you don’t want to screw this up. I probably spent 1.5 hours doing this, if there is a next time I would guess it will be 20 minutes or so.

I purchased this and the ignition switch. They both were easy to install, just watch the videos on youtube for more info. The cost and quality were right up my alley. It fixed my no start issue and I am confident this part will last for a while

The product videos are good but sometimes the angle is a little off and you can’t see exactly what they are doing. There are a number of slots that have to line up and when you are doing this for the first time, that is very important. I watched a number of videos to get everything figured out. To remove the ignition cylinder on my 2008 Ford F150, the release pin was only accessible after removing the bottom plastic trim piece and one small electronic component (I imagine it was a key sensor). The instructions for setting up the new lock were perfect. The only improvement would be if the video showed that 1 was on one side 2 on the other side, and so forth. Laying the pins on the template is a great idea as you pull them out. Don’t confuse the 3 and the 5 (I almost did). Lastly, I was a little frustrated not being able to fit the cylinder back into the receiving slot after following all the directions. After some lengthy research from a hunch looking at other comments, I found that the retaining ring was not required for my vehicle. After that, everything was as smooth as silk. Overall, a tremendous value and I highly recommend it … but only if you have patience, you or someone can handle delicate small objects (tiny springs), you have a good attention span, and you like to save big bucks!

I bought this because the lock cylinder in our 2008 F150 came out of steering column while removing the key. I didn’t want to buy a whole new lock cylinder and then pay a bunch of money to have the new keys programmed for our vehicle. I saw this on a video on how to replace the lock cylinder and use the included tumblers to match the original lock cylinder. I’m only giving this a three because I ran into an issue with the pin that retains the lock housing in the steering column and had had to work my way around it. It turned into being an issue with the machining of the housing that wouldn’t allow the pin to be depressed to either install or remove the lock cylinder housing.
Pro: The tumbles and springs worked out quite well while using them to set the new lock cylinder to match the old one. This is quite handy because it allowed me to retain the old chip key that came with the truck without having to get new keys reprogrammed by the dealership or a locksmith. The included instructions weren’t very clear, but a couple of YouTube videos showed me the way. It was nice to have all the needed small parts, including a small packet of white lithium grease to put everything back together lubricated. Having extra tumblers and springs is a good touch in case I messed something up and have to do this again.
Con: The retaining pin that holds the lock cylinder housing in the steering column just wouldn’t depress. I took the old pin from the previous housing because there isn’t one included in packaging. I attempted to install it into the new Dorman housing, but it didn’t work. I took a close look at the housing and noticed that there wasn’t a groove machined into the area where the retaining pit fit. This groove allows the pin to sit inside the housing and not rotate from vibration or other movement. After messing around with it for about an hour, I just couldn’t get it to work for me. This has to be able to be installed because it is what keeps the lock cylinder housing in place in the steering column. I finally threaded a small, short bolt into the hole to keep it all secure. Someone is definitely failing in the quality control department because this should not be like this at all.
All in all, I got this to work for me. Now I don’t have to worry about the lock cylinder housing coming out when I attempt to remove the key from the ignition. I kept the old lock cylinder housing in case anyone wants to see what groove I’m talking about regarding the retention pin. If it wasn’t for this, I would be giving this item a 5 star rating.

The instructions that come with this are absolutely useless The pictures are horrible.. Go right to YouTube don’t even waste your time with their instructions.
Overall I would say 15 minute job super easy and did the trick.
