I bought the kit to replace a bad cataytic converter in our 2004 Toyota Camry ES with a I4 engine. The replacement manifold fit perfectly to each end of the exhaust; however, the old heat shield had to be slightly modified in order to attach correctly to it. Basically I had to drill a new hole in the heat shield. The only other issue I had is that the replacement “kit” did not come with new studs and the old ones were unusable. I called directly to Dorman and they appologized and overnighted me the new studs and nuts. Others have remarked that their kit did not include the studs either and Dorman is working to correct this issue. This is a quality unit and I think well worth the price. For the 04 Camry, be prepared to make a small modification in the heat shield and if your unit comes without studs, just give Dorman a call. Overall very pleased, especially with Dorman customer service.

Where do I begin, let’s start off with picture number one dormant engineered they do talk about proper fit and function and validates trouble free installation and durability of part.
none of the heat shields that I was able to put on lined up so I had to drill and or widen holes in the heat shields so that they would fit the exhaust manifold. The large heat shield on top you will see pictured I had to leave the bolt out because of the mount was about an inch too short and way off on angle to attempt to even put a bolt on. You better have a tab to chase the threads because every single bolt hole I was able to access would not except a bolt had to chase all the threads. I had to leave off the heat shield that protects the alternator from excessive heat there were no mounts for that one at all, you’ll notice in the other picture, two brackets that secure the exhaust manifold to the block so it doesn’t vibrate and crack from stress we’re not able to go back on because they did not formed the exhaust manifold correctly they did accommodate the mounting points on the exhaust manifold but just not correctly nothing comes close to fitting. In all with the frustration and 11 extra parts left over it’s installed, Not happy about it, it’s not a job I would do on somebody else’s vehicle.

If you are thinking about this exhaust manifold/converter please reconsider. The fitment is terrible. I had to modify several of the mounting bolts just to get it to work. In addition, it doesn’t come with new exhaust studs/nuts so you will have to go buy some of those. Save your time and money and buy a diffirent brand that is not poorly casted and machined. Jim

I read some of the reviews and saw that they were a little bit older, so I thought I would give this manifold a try. WHAT A MISTAKE! First, it is pictured with all of the bolts/studs/nuts needed for install, right? WRONG!! It was short 2 bolts to hold the heat shield on, no studs or nuts for the flange, and I had to modify the factory brackets so that the manifold would be braced up against the block. I had the old one out in less than an hour and spent over 3 hours trying to get this one back in. The wire for the oxygen sensor is also stretched tight now as this one is bulkier than the OEM. Save your money and buy a better one. If I could, I would return this for a refund, but can’t afford to be without my car in the time it will take to get a better one.

This product is “Ok”. I think it is a bit of a stretch to consider this item to be a “direct fit”. The reason I say this is because some of the holes do not line up for the bolts. In addition, it does not come with the new exhaust flange studs to attach to the exhaust pipe. I think the idea is to reuse the ones you have, but I found this to be next to impossible to remove. Luckily O’Reillys sells replacement ones for about 6.50. Another thing to note is that your factory converter has three “sections” of heat shield: 1 surrounding the actual converter portion, 1 covering the top of the manifold, and a smaller piece which protects the alternator. This unit does not have any mounting holes to attach the small shield piece which protects the alternator. This forced me to retrofit the shield to properly protect the alternator. All in all, this unit got the job done, however only time will tell if it holds up.

Okay, so ….
THIS FIT PERFECTLY For my 2004 CAMRY 2.4L VVTI XLE – minus the holding bracket bolts on the lower portion.
This was an amazing deal ! I bought this little lady for 150 bucks!
Came with everything in the picture except for pipe connecting screws… JUST use a pair of channel locks and a rag wrapped around these two bolts and a little PB Blaster.. BLAMMO!!!! 5 bucks at Walmart or more expensive at Autozone and you can reuse the same 2 bolts in the new unit to connect to the next manifold!
THIS CAN BE DONE WITH HAND TOOLS. AND YOUr SPARE TIRE JACK- I always recommend a 3 ton lift with Toyotas…Did I mention I own three Camry’s that are at their prime now with 300k on the 2004, 156k on the 2001 and 276k on the 1997 manual transmission.
2 HOURS MAX TO PUT IT
Tools you will need…
PB BLASTER- Spray every bolt you see attached.
12 mm socket, 14 mm socket 17mm socket,
1 ratchet that can fit both of these sizes
1 cheater bar- any pipe that can fit over the end of the ratchet.
A couple of Ice cold Beers and away you go!
dealership quoted me 1200 bucks for parts and labor
firestone quoted me 900 bucks
Amazon…. 150.00
2 hours of my time? Free cause I get to work on my cars and drink beer….
total cost 157.00 with a new can of PB Blaster, parts labor and INSTANT HORSE PWER GAIN !
It seriously feels like a brand new camry, I would have changed this at the 150,000 mile marker but finally got a light at 298,000 so I think the first one lived a great life.
