This unit worked well in my application. It was a challenge to remove the old worn out unit, however, the new unit installed easy. I had to use different bolts other than the ones provided in the kit.

It is way to small to fit my 1972 f250. The “product measurements” must be referring to the packaging… I can not find actual dimentions of the product anywhere in the description. Otherwise seems like decent quality.

Used on my 1994 Ford Ranger rebuild project. Happy with the fit on the upper end of the steering shaft. I used bolts rather than the supplied rivet bolts because I had no way to inset them. Sees to work fine. Recommended.

So this is an initial review for anyone with an old truck like mine. I struggled to find an option of reasonable price to fix my ford steering issue. It has a one piece riveted lower steering shaft rag joint assembly. With some work and modification i was able to make this work like a charm. I had to cut and drill the rivets. I took the shaft apart and was able to use this to reassemble and replace my rag joint. Worked like a charm. You will have to buy different bolts. I went with 5/16″ x 2 inch to make sure i had plenty of length. I also used lock washers as a temporary fix until i can get to a hardware store that isnt out of nylon lock nuts. The holes lined up perfect and everything else fit as it should. It was a bit of work without a drill press but with a dremel tool and hand drill with a metal bit i made it work. I will add to this review to update how well it held up. I just didn’t want to fork out over $200 for a truck i paid $500 for to get an updated steering shaft. I am a happy camper to have a $10 fix for a discontinued part.
coming back to this it is still holding up well. while i won’t endorse using this for anything other than it’s intended use i can say that modifying it to your needs is definitely possible. the flexible option this provides for someone cheap like me with some mechanical ability to do some simple cutting and drilling is well worth the money. i would expect this will have many applications beyond what the recommended compatibility lists.

use these to replace the rubber steering shaft rag joints on 1st generation explorers. the old rubber become worn/rotted and results in very loose steering. the holes in the disk line up with the old joint, but bolts and washer spacers will have to be substituted for hardware provided. the rivets must be cut off old shaft to replace. the old rubber rots away, and the ford part has been discontinued for many years. two kits will be required for most repairs. they last about 5-10 years before they also start to shrink, and rot away. the lower joint section is now reproduced, it comes with the molded rubber, metal fitting with splines and the bolts ready to mount. i have not tried them yet, but it may be a better (if more expensive) option. amazon caries them ( BuyAutoParts 85-70792N), $46
