I installed these on March 14, 2017. These fit fine, but only time will tell how well they hold up. If we encounter any issues with these struts, I will be sure to come back and edit this review to reflect that.
The installation was on a 2005 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD 4.0L V6.
The removal was easy – simply remove the top three nuts and then remove the bottom bolt. I also unhooked the upper ball joint to give me plenty of room. If you live in the rust belt like me, and these have never been changed before, you may be in for a battle. The removal of the bottom bolt, on the driver’s side, was a BEAR. It was rusted/frozen inside the metal sleeve. So, when I turned the bolt, the sleeve turned with it inside the rubber. I ended up cutting the bolt with a cut off blade from below. The bolt was an M18-6g X 123. The bolt and the nut, bought from the local Ford dealer, cost me a little over $80. It would have been cheaper to order them from a Ford dealer online, but I needed it in a hurry. The bolts come standard in a 4 pack; but look around, and you can find an online dealer that sells them individually.
These struts appeared to be a little longer than the 12 year old struts I removed – maybe it was because the old ones were shot – I don’t know, I ended up needing to push the bottom control arm down a little bit more in order to install the bottom bolt, so I loosened the stabilizer link to the point where the nut was close to coming off. Then the bottom bolt was easy to install.
So far, the Explorer rides fine, but as I said time will tell.

I ordered the front and rear set from Detroit Axle. The rear set came from Detroit Axle while the front set, for some reason, came from a different supplier and were a different brand. The rear set from Detroit Axle seem ok but the front set are sagging and the vehicle now has horrible bump steer. Not recommended.

Like any quick strut, they were very easy to install. I previously bought the Monroe version (at twice the price) and figured I would give these a try since my 2005 Explorer has >325K miles. I was surprised at the quality!

I like the idea of affordable parts, having said that, you get what you pay for. Installation was ridiculously easy on the 2 wheel drive explorer, literally 20 minutes and both sides were done. That’s about all the good I can say. I have only had these installed for about 6 months, less than 3000 miles on them, and they squeak and groan worse than my old worn out struts. I try not to be overly picky about things, but that kind of noise coming from a brand new product is unacceptable. Other than the noise, they work fine. So you decide, just be advised.
