It is an easy install. You can find the bank 2 downstream sensor under the car and near the driver’s side. You will see a plug and you can access it by removing the drivers side carpet. It will plug into the left kick side fuse box. Just be careful of the plastic clips (broke the white clip on the fuse box).
Spray the O2 with PB Blaster and let it sit. Use the socket type (22mm with open end) O2. You will not have enough room or leverage for the wrench type adapter. Then remove the driver side floor sill by removing the plastic screw and pulling out the cover and unclipping the carpet. There is probably another plastic screw near the upper gas pedal. The carpet is Velcro onto the floor so pull gently. Once peeled back you will be able to find the O2. Unplug with a pick and fish the replacement in. Don’t plug in yet.
Make sure to use O2 compatible anti seize grease (provided) and torque her down. Now plug it in and re-install the carpet and trim. Hopefully it works and it doesn’t throw a Bank 2 Sensor 1 code like mine. Remind the wife to never take it through an under carriage car wash.

This is the correct downstream O2 sensor for the 2009 AWD Matrix. The connector needs to be cut off this new sensor. Cut the wires to the existing sensor about 8″ from the existing connector that is on the front floor center console, forward, on the passenger side. Splice in the 2 new black wires to the 2 existing white wires. (Heater so not polarity sensitive). Splice in the grey wire (existing) to the white wire (new). This is ground. Splice in the old black wire to the new blue wire. This is the signal. I re-used the floor chassis plug seal by feeding the wires through it prior to crimping on the old existing connector. Custom cut to length the wire covers between the sensor and the chassis plus, than again between the chassis plug inside to the connector.

This was an exact replacement OEM downstream O2 sensor. Direct fit for 2009 Toyota Matrix AWD 2.4L with no plug modification needed. Works perfectly!

I have a 2010 Venza V6. This sensor will not work on the 2010. not sure why, but mine does have lot’s more holes in the sensor portion. Bank 2 sensor 2 code is for the down stream right. total length of 37 inches. it comes off the left side of the exhaust pipe right under the drivers right foot. Drivers side being a Left hand drive model. (USA etc.) remove the black plastic nut on the trim panel fwd of the door hinge. get your fingers under the trim panel at the door seal and gently pull until it comes loose. then pull up on the door sill trim. this only needs to come up about 2 inches for the kick panel trim to clear. The sensor wire runs across the floor and into a circuit board under the kick panel. Gray connector, a smaller blade screw driver will aide in pushing in the release clip. cut the white plastic zip tie under the brake pedal. replacement comes with the new sensor. there is a white plastic cup that has a zip tie connector in it, it’s attached to the circuit board under the kick panel. chances are your going to snap this off trying to un clip the wire. I replaced this cheap plastic part with some duct tape. it just holds the wire in place so it doesn’t chafe while your driving. I drove my car up on some ramps. climb under and cut the 4 wires at the end of the sensor. (It’s broke and your done with it!) Push the rubber boot up through the floor, or pull it down and remove the wire and connector. 7/8 box end wrench will now slip over the sensor. An open end wrench can round off the corners of the sensor causing you lot’s of problems. use the supplied copper anti-seize on the threads of the new sensor and install. open end wrench and only “good N tight” Finger tight and 3/4 to 1 full turn more. there is a spark plug type crush washer on the sensor. you need to squish it just a little. feed the wire back through the hole in the floor and seat the boot into the hole. insert the connector and secure the wire where it crosses under the pedals. push the carpet back in place, reinstall the trim ( dont forget the little black plastic nut) and your done.
Up date: bank 2 sensor 2 is located on the front of the engine. I was mis informed by a Toyota mechanic to replace the sensor I wrote about above. This did not fix my p0057 code. The front most exhaust manifold. right behind the radiator and just under the engine is bank 2 sensor 2.
