Working AOK for last 2 weeks. Correct design with “In”, “Out” and “Return” lines (some pumps don’t have the “Return” lines – check your application before ordering!

The pump I had on my car for 23 years finally started leaking, so, I replaced it with this pump. After only about 100 miles, it failed and left me stranded. Upon inspection I can see that the inside end of the arm broke off of the valve spring so is no longer able to pump. I am reading there are high failure rates with these newer replacements, and I believe it is due to the shape of the arm which is different than the originals. I compared this to an original side by side and found that the newer pump arm is about 1/4″ higher at the contact point of the cam which preloads the lever too much upon installation and over-extends the travel of the arm causing breakage. A few shards fell out of the pump and the spring under the arm popped out and is likely in my oil pan now….NICE! I don’t understand how we had the technology to reliably mass produce these 60 years ago, but now can’t.

Installed the pump and it is extremely noisy. There is a distinct knocking sound and I am worried this unit will not last very long.
