I got this 120A DB Electrical alternator as an upgrade to the 90A alternator on my 1997 Grand Cherokee. People said it would need grinding to the bracket for fitment on a regular Cherokee but that it should bolt right in to my Grand Cherokee without modification and they were correct. This bolted in no problem on my 1997 Grand Cherokee.
I actually bought mine for cheap from Amazon Warehouse with damage… It looked like it had been dropped or smashed by something which resulted in one of the ground posts being snapped off. I had to reroute where the ground wire on the vehicle wire harness bolted on, but that was easy. The point is, this thing took a hard hit and still tested fine on a machine and has been working great in my Jeep for months.
DB Electrical makes a sturdy part that can take a beating, hopefully it lasts a long time. Will update this review if I ever run into an issue.

Great quality as always from DB Electrical. It is a good upgrade over the 90 amp alternator that came stock on most Jeep Cherokees. I did my research before ordering and knew it would not be a direct bolt in replacement but it was worth the little bit of grinding required to make it fit.

Finally rebuilt the Jeep this went in only to have the alternator bearing screaming at idle. 200rpm over idle it’s fine but otherwise it’s embarrassing. Past the return window, pretty disappointed.

Part shipped fast. One thing to keep in mind is you WILL need to modify the brackets from the original alternator. My 1998 Jeep Cherokee Limited came with a factory 117 amp alternator and I still had to modify the brackets to hold the 120 amp replacement. Just use a marker to determine how much you need to remove off the brackets, then use a grinder (bench or hand held) to take off what you need. The hole patterns line up and wires are okay, but the alternator is bigger so again, the brackets WILL need to be modified. If you don’t mind a little grinding, it’s worth the money you save!

My stock 98 Cherokee XJ Sport had a much smaller diameter alternator. This one is much larger diameter, I had to do a bracket mod to get it to fit. I offset the bottom bolt by about 1 inch and it fits fine. Great upgrade!
