it required a little more labor & time than I expected. It worked fine when I got it all installed .

If you want your transmission to last, install this kit. Just make sure you have the updated solenoid pack and get all your gaskets: 2 valve body, 2 accumulator and the solenoid if you are replacing it, too.

We have 150,000 miles on our 2003 Ford Escape. 3 occasions in the last 6 months, the transmission started ‘bucking’ while driving. Actually 2 occasions were while driving, and the 3rd occasion it was happening while idling in the driveway just after startup. During that last occasion, the transmission bucking was nearly causing the engine to stall since it was only idling. I attempted to drive the car while it was happening and the ‘bucking’ was also making the transmission act like it was slipping. I took the car home and parked it, I’m confident I would have burnt the transmission out if I had kept driving it that way. Based on my research, this kit fixes several issues in the CD4E transmission that are the result of wear within the valve body. The full job including removal of the valve body, install of this kit in the valve body, and reinstall of the valve body, took about 10 hours. Had to pull the battery and lower radiator hose to get good access. You will need (1)(Transtec B12806) solenoid pack gasket, (1)(Transtec B11301) side cover pan gasket, (2)(Transtec B12808) accumulator separator plate gaskets, and (2)(Transtec B12809) main valve body separator plate gaskets. The kit comes with 1 drill bit which is just a regular 1/16″ drill bit. This bit will take care of about 75% of the holes that have to be drilled. The remaining holes require a #55 bit (.052″ – very small) which I did not have, and also a 3/32″ drill bit which I did have and you will likely have if you have a decent bit set. One step of the kit installation is installing a spacer/washer on the servo assembly. I did this with the transmission on the car, so I was able to use a floor jack to compress the servo spring instead of a c-clamp as advised in the instructions. Actually I was able to put the spacer/washer over the jack arm prior to compressing the servo spring, I was able to keep the servo spring compressed, remove the split ring, slide the spacer/washer up and reinstall the split ring below it, without lowering the jack. This stopped me from having to expand and recompress the servo spring and risk getting any debris into the transmission. I only completed the install a few days ago but the transmission has been shifting beautifully ever since and the bucking has not come back.
