My FJ has been sitting for a while so the battery is getting depleted.
I am using this to charge up the battery and later on use it to maintain charge.
The good things I like about this.
– easy to use. I just hook up the ground and positive ends and plug it into my power extension cord.
– Just need to select mode to car, then battery type of lead acid & 12v.
– the charge light comes on and it starts charging the battery.
Now unfortunately, it has been raining everyday so I have to stop my charging and continue the next day so it is taking longer than usual to complete my charge.
However, I am sure it will finish and complete the job.
I will update if there are anything else worth mentioning.

Most importantly, this device is not UL, CSA, or ETL tested and certified. Even though that is the case, I still used it, but under a watchful eye. I used it because it was the only device I had available, and was not happy about it.
I ran my extension cord through holes in the grille that is part of my hood. I hooked up the device to the battery and then connected the extension cord. I lowered the hood slightly: This way, if there was any rain, I would be safe (it was threatening rain when I tested the device). The item self configured to the correct battery (gel) at 12V but the size was identified as a motorcycle battery when the battery is a larger size for my SUV. I needed to press the mode button to get the proper setting of a car battery. I could not leave this unit unattended, especially since the unit does heat up a fair bit.
Presently, until I get another alternator, I disconnect my battery terminal to prevent the battery from draining due to a problem with the voltage regulator. The alternator still produced electricity and charges the battery when the car runs, but not enough to keep up with the air conditioner being on full. So I need to augment the charging after the car is off. I have a few more days until the alternator is received (I am almost certain that I messed it up when jumping another car with a totally dead battery – too much current draw).
Interestingly, when the unit runs, it does get rather warm to the touch but the wires are perfectly cool, suggesting that the unit might not be as efficient with the energy as it could be (too much is converted and lost to heat). Since this unit is not certified, I cannot use it overnight. As a result, I have already purchased another one that is certified by either ETL. Yes, it is more expensive (by thirty dollars), but having the car being safe as it is charging outweighs the additional cost since the risk of loss is considerably higher. Lastly, I personally think it is worth the extra 30 dollars to get a unit that is ETL certified, can do an alternator check, and can load test the battery.
None the less, I will keep this as a backup device once my new charger comes in.

Nice reliable charger. Only flaw is they want you to plug and unplug thru use. I recommend getting a remote outlet switch or in-line switch to save you trouble.
