I purchased two of these kits….The first one went in crooked but I believed it would work. Unfortunately, it slipped out of place and failed. Ok…install error I thought. Bushing kit number two…it popped into the sleeve perfectly. I drove the car for an hour, it shifted nicely, no issues. I got home tried reversing into the driveway….and nothing. I checked the linkages….one was missing. I found half of it on the ground broken. Unbelievable…good thing I made it home. It is cheap, too bad it is a success or complete failure.

I had the bushing snap off one of my shift cables on my 2013 Fiat 500 Abarth, which eliminated 5th and reverse only, because the Fiat 500 Abarth is…….odd. I was expecting to lose 1-2, 5-R, not just 5-R

Took out the battery box, looked underneath and saw the snapped bushing, but cable was fine. Disconnected the end of the cable, removed old bushing, squished in new bushing, reinstalled, and viola. Shifting again.

Much better tolerance than the factory bushings, which have more play in them. Easy and quick fix to a broken bushing on your Fiat 500, and much cheaper and easier than replacing the shift cable. No reason you shouldn’t do this as preventative maintenance. As having a shifter bushing break could strand you.

Do not buy, two sets failed this way, order new factory cables. Waste of time and money

  4. Douglas K Hansen

The material that is used is very hard rubber/ plastic. Much more durable than stock rod ends.

  5. Cujo

Disintegrated in less than 24 hours after installation. The 10mm side was completely falling apart when I went to address unrelated matters less than 24 hours later. Don’t trust this at all.

  6. MikeD

This is my second one. First one had a little chip out of it. Thought it would be ok. Came out after about a 100 miles. So now I’m trying it again. Wish me luck

Fit my 2011 Mini Countryman S All4 perfect. Little tight going in. You’ll have to use the lube send with the bushings. I just used channel locks to insert them.

I called the dealership to inquire on cost of a replacement shift cable (the only available repair option through FIAT), they quoted close to $250 for the part. I did not inquire about labor…
The BushingFix was about $30 shipped. Time to repair was about an hour, in my driveway. Not the easiest repair to do but very manageable. Pull the battery out and the linkage is right there behind. Tight quarters, and a bit fiddly.

  9. Cujo

So I had this break 3 years ago, and this option didn’t exist, was around $180 just to buy the whole linkage at the dealership to get the part.

Hardest part was getting the old bushing part off the transmission(tight space), ended up getting a pair of needle nose vise-grips and adjusting them to slip behind the old bushing and pulling to pop it off. Installing the new bushing was easy, just clean out the old cable end, used a vice to press in the new one per the instructions. I used a 1×1 wood post to “pound” the new bushing back onto the transmission.

    Worked good
