I have had the one 4oz tube of this stuff in my drawer for the last four years. I was running low last year and snatched up a 2 oz JB Weld tube of putty. I finally finished up the Stik-It and used the JB Weld for the first time this past weekend to patch up 3 holes on steam pipe. As with anything reactive that sits in a drawer for some time, some of the product becomes oxidized and becomes unusable. For the Stik-it it was only at the ends that became a bit oxidized each time and needed chopping. As for the JB Weld, unopened and sitting brand spanking new in my drawer for only a year, it had small parts along its length that hardened (in addition to its ends) and felt like shards of glass when kneading . The JB Weld is “creamier” when working with and makes WAY MORE of a mess than the Stik-It did. JB Weld is tougher to clean off. In my opinion, the Stik-It is just a better experience to work with. If JB Weld’s “creamier” and tougher to clean off properties mean its better at bonding and forming seals, then I am all for it, but there are no performance tests to refer to. In terms of shelf life, it looks like Stik-It is much better than JB Weld. As for performance, I will furnish an update as the heating has only started. I am hoping the JB Weld at least holds up in that category, otherwise I will have to use my new tube of Stik-It putty 🙂
I highly recommend this product.
