Am very happy with these new shocks
Awesomeness –
This is genuine bilstein with manufacturers support. I bought it as used like new for a discount and it was new.

My 2001 Tundra rode without effective shocks for an embarrassingly long time. The truck handles well and, frankly, I really didn’t notice a problem. However, the mechanic who changed my oil said the shocks were gone, so I ordered this replacement set of Bilsteins. My nephew installed them in about an hour.
There is a serious improvement in handling. Really noticeable. I’ve had them on for about 4000 miles now and I’m sorry I waited so long to replace the shocks. The front struts come next.

These was no harder to install than any rear shock on a 2006 Tundra double-cab, 4.7L V8 4×4. But that still means it was a pain (not fault of Bilstein, but of Toyota). Not too pleased with ride, though. It seems a bit soft, letting springs still bounce a bit over bumps, even with comparison to the original Toyota shocks at 150K miles. Though “Heavy-Duty”, I suspect they don’t mean “stiff”. But it is decent enough. The sleeve is plastic, not metal, which is another minor disappointment. There are instructions, but no visuals, even for the assembly of the washers and rubber donuts. So pay attention to the order of what comes off the originals so that you can put the new stuff back on the same way. Another minor disappointment–an exploded view of the assembly would have been nice.

I think the best shock available at a decent price. Very high quality.

Muy buena compra

Great product, solved my very bad bottoming out. Not the fault of these shocks, but the install was a pain with only a few inches under the bed to remove the upper mount. Worth the effort…..different trunk now

Much, much easier to install compared to the front ones which were also Bilstein’s purchased here on Amazon for a good price. Never realized and really appreciated the new front struts, along with new, all Moog Problem Solver Series lower ball joints, inner and outer tie rods, soon to be replaced sway bar links and sway bar bushings until this pair were installed in the back. Night and day difference now I could say when it was otherwise noted when I also reviewed the front pair but mind you though that all four were completely shot! Immediately felt the improvement and most likely could only get better after a proper alignment and make my old truck drive like new again. Worth the price and install!

Great product with fast shipping. Light years above the quality of my previous Monroe shocks…which once I removed, one was completely compressed and had a blown valve…see attached pic
Now here is the reason for my review, which I write only when a product really impresses me, and/or when I think shoppers need to know some information that the description does not include.
First off, my rear 4600 series HD Bilsteins were ordered for my 2005 Tundra 4 door SR5 2WD to replace my old ass used up Monroes giving me a rough ride. They had NO instructions in them and had a bag of washers, bushings and a nyloc nut. I was really sure the process of assembly but I’d figure it out.
Chock both front tires….you CAN use the factory bottle jack to lift frame in front of rear tires, place jack stand under front shackle of rear leaf pack…Make sure rear tire (NO, you do not need to remove rear tires) is just off ground to release any preload on old shock. Remove through bolt and nut on bottom bracket of shock on axle…remove upper nut on top of shock under bed..You can easily compress the shock to remove the old unit if needed.
I had to open the lower shock mount on axle a little bit as the lower Bilstein bushing would not fit at first..just hit it a little with a hammer to spread it open a couple of mm’s..Toss old shocks….
Pace washer on shock rod facing up, then bushing…install into upper shock mount, install lower shock into bracket with old bolt and then hand tighten nut. Move to top of mount and install the smaller of 3 washers facing up (using this as a centering washer which fits into hole on bracket), then rubber bushing, then other large washer facing down…then put in nyloc nut…..thightne until it has a few threads showing above the upper washer….Tighten lower mount bot and nut to factory specs…
Lower vehicle onto ground to take in preload on new shock….Tighten upper shock nut till it bottoms out on shock rod…will expand the rubber bushings some which is normal.
Move to next side and repeat….
You CAN do one side at a time with only one tire off ground at a time…
Tips: I sprayed the upper nuts and lower bolt/nut with WD40 generously before I started with the lifting and jackstand part.
On the driver side there is a wire loom in front of the upper shock nut and rod which makes it a pain to get to….JUST
pop the 3 plastic frame plugs holding the loom to the frame out off the frame and lay loom BEHIND upper shock
rod/nut….plenty of room to work now.
I used an small adjustable wrench to hold upper shock rod while I used a ratcheting wrench to remove nut.
You will need (on this vehicle)…a 14mm, 17mm wrench, a 17mm socket and ratchet, adjustable wrench, hammer for
additional “convincing”, WD40 for help too……………Toyota bottle jack is fine, ONE jack stand and something to
chock front tires (important).
I noticed an immediate ride improvement the second I left the driveway ! HUGE upgrade in ride comfort and
drivability. Actually an easy easy job, took me 1.5 hours from start to finish WITHOUT ever doing a shock replacement OR
having any installation instructions (thanks Biltstein)..
But is worth every penny and you will save a lot of them buying them here on Amazon!
I hope this helps any of you DIY guy/gals………..This is an easy quick massive improvement for out trucks suspension.
Thanks
