Warning: I already love Bilstein products on other cars so they were an easy once for my X164 2008 Mercedes GL320 CDI. My truck only had 115K miles on it and that’s a bit early for rear suspension to fail. But regardless, the truck would either bottom out over low speed speed humps or it would collapse the rear air shocks at speed when driving over severe road imperfections on the highway.
The ride quality after install brought me back to OEM perfection. I’m embarrassed at how many miles I drove with blown rear shocks.
NOTE: while these are completely simple to install – just the upper two shock bolts and the lower shock bolt, you still need to remove all the rear trim panels in the truck just to access the top two bolts. I ultimately ended up using a small hole saw under the rear arm rear on the oassenger side to make it easier. Oh, and the real piece de resistance? If you don’t want to remove your 3rd row seat and all flooring panels to allow you to remove the entire rear side trim panel in one piece, you’ll have to sacrifice ripping the rear arm rests out. Yes, you will need to break the plastic welds that hold it in and it won’t fit as securely after install. But you’ll be too busy laughing about how awesome your truck rides on these truck Bilsteins.

Don’t waste your money on cheap shocks–I bought a cheaper brand which made a knocking noise ride was awful BILSTIENE IS THE BEST SHOCKS FOR MY GL450 MERCEDES pay a little extra for the best and you can’t go wrong my Mercedes ride is great again
A Likely Story –
Works good, ride was smoother…it did not go with new bolts..use my old one..

Awesome

Had replaced front bagged struts with Bilsteins about 18 months ago and started watching the price on these. It dipped to $150 each so I pulled the trigger. Replaced air bags at the same time (Arnott). Bags hadn’t failed but both had 130k miles. Between shocks and bags ride quality is much better over RR crossings, and dips on straights and corners.

As described, perfect replacement for my 2008 GL450 rear shock

It is a new experience for me that after replacing to this rear shock, my GL was STOP fishtailing on bumps.
