I had a heck of a time trying to decide how I wanted to mount my iPhone where it was in a convenient location for easy access and viewing. Top dash mounts are intrusive and a bit far from view in my Dodge truck. I also do not like having anything between me and the windshield. After looking at several mounts I already owned and even considering to drill into my dash with a RAM mount I decided for the price I would try this CD mount. I know that there is a possibility that damage could occur in some cd players if one attempted to eject the cd while the mount was installed but I never use the cd player so that was not a concern for my application. I also read a lot of reviews on other similar mounts that the spring clamp that holds your phone failed due to weak springs and this one didn’t seem to have the same reviewer feedback. The location of the cd player slot in my vehicle is perfectly positioned for this mount. I can easily reach the phone and view it when needed. The mounting bolt that applies pressure to the slot opening is very well built and as long as you do not apply too much pressure to it there is little chance that you will crack or break the players slot or faceplate. The only design flaw (if you can call it that) is that the bolt that is used to apply the pressure is long and is in the way of my display (station settings, clock, etc). Not a huge issue but something to be aware of. In a truck (4X4) or other HD vehicle there is some vibration and movement since it only uses a 1/4″ mounting point but that is to be expected on something like this. It isn’t as bad as I would have imagined and it is not a problem in normal driving conditions but on rougher roads it does vibrate considerably. I am impressed that even in extreme conditions the phone has never left the cradle which is a good testament to the spring strength. Hopefully it will not weaken over time.

The Bestrix cd slot phone mount is simply among the best available at an economical price. After only a week, I found it easy to use, convenient, and has a strong hold on the phone.
Among the dozens of different kinds, they can be classified by how the mount attaches to the car: suction cup (windshield or dash), air vent, cd slot, cup holder, cigarette lighter socket, rear view mirror, sun visor, clip to console, steering wheel, custom mount/cradle by phone, case and make of car, screwed into console, or peel-off sticker.
I tried several types and either returned them or threw them away. Most were relatively inexpensive. One exception was the custom mount/cradle by phone, case and make of car that cost from $70 to $160. Appears to be quite good, however, I didn’t test this one; glad I didn’t need to.
Once the two pieces of the Bestrix unit are assembled, installation is simple: insert it into the cd slot and flip the latch to tighten it in. Removal is just as quick.
Significant aspects:
– holds phone in a very sturdy manner
– clamps on sides do not interfere with buttons on phone
– button on rear side near the top releases side clamps
– ball joint allows a variety of orientations
– it can be temporarily shifted to access dash controls behind it
– unit can be easily removed to play CDs
– install does not damage cd unit
– includes spacers to increase the thickness of the insert
– open at bottom to allow cord to be attached for charging
– can be easily transferred to other cars
– good customer service (thanked me for the review)
Considerations:
– won’t work well in radios whose face must be lowered to access the cd slot
– some cd units have a external lip that may prevent the insert to go in deep enough for a snug fit
– in some cases, certain dash displays will not be visible, controls may be inconvenient to access, or block the ash tray or cubby hole.
The Bestrix unit lists for just $19.99. For the functionality, quality construction, and ease of use as well as install/uninstall, it’s a great deal.

When it comes time to consider a phone mount for your car (apart from an option of using Bluetooth – which not all vehicles have and, if not, obtaining a headset, etc. opens up lots of costs and unpredictable performance. This is the one option (Bestrix CD mount) that I have had the absolute best experience with. Convenience and compliance with hands-free cellular phone use laws put me into this position of searching and trying. Choices are not too abundant: there’s windshield mount (can interfere with driving visibility and they very often fall), there’s dash mounts (can ruin your dash and also interfere with driving visibility), there’s air vent mounts (heat and AC can ruin your phone and, from experience, they may crack your mount fins and pull them down into a perpetual downward-pointing direction, there’s cupholder mounts (poor alternative, IMHO), and there’s CD mounts. I’ve tried two other CD mount units with a lot of compromise – they rattled and would often slip out while driving. Then I tried Beatrix’s CD mount……Success!!! It’s well-made, strong, very, very easy-to-install (I did it in less than 30 seconds). Most importantly, IT HOLDS like a rock. Steady, no jittering, no shaking, no falling out. If someone’s posterior could accommodate it, I swear that one could sit on the mount and it would provide a 3-in-front seating (smile). I could not be happier with this mount. It exceeded my expectations and wishes. Highly recommended by me. Mine carries my iPhone 6S with not a problem at all – I even inserted my wife’s 6S Plus with no problem (mounting and/or holding it jiggle-free while driving). I experienced extremely quick delivery and a personal touch of e-mailed instructions – even before the delivery. I did not need the instructions: the installation is so intuitive. Thanks you Bestrix.
