Was not exactly like the original in appearance but works same as original. 4 stars on appearance

I broke my old cable when I was trying to take it off to work on other things underneath it. This new cable is great. I didn’t realize my gas pedal was so spongy. It feels way more responsive! This is super easy to install it took 5 minutes with a socket and a flathead

When I was preparing to order this cable, a RED notice came up saying “this item is UNABLE TO SHIP to your default address”, which is a P.O.Box address.
This made no sense whatsoever to me, as the item, package and all, should be no bigger than a video-cassette.
Never-the-less, I went to the trouble of providing the physical “ground” address to a business in town that allows me to have packages dropped there from time to time.
Then, when I check the package tracking/shipping info to see if it has been sent — you guessed it, they shipped it via USPS anyway and, HAD I KNOWN and not been mis-led, I could have had it shipped to my P.O.Box and avoided a lot of un-necessary inconvenience.
My thoughts are that this business has grown much too large for Peter to know what Paul is doing, therefore creating a lot of un-necessary confusion.
This is my 3rd order and also my 3rd foul-up — not a good start to my online shopping experience.

Now, some useful information about the accelerator cable, ATP #290 :

    For 1985 Ford diesel.
EVERY brand/source for this supposedly exact replacement cable is 42-1/2″ long.
This turns out to be a generous 7-1/4″ longer than the original factory length of 35-1/4″.
This extra length doesn’t seem to hinder the smoothness of operation; but, it does make for a somewhat sloppy-looking installation, as that excess length has to go somewhere; oh well, better too much than not enough.
The factory-original ball-socket end positively snaps onto the throttle-lever ball and requires firm pressure from a pry-bar to snap it off.
The ball-socket on the new ATP cable is about two ball sizes bigger and literally falls onto the ball.
The spring-band retainer can be rotated such that ONLY one edge retains it onto the ball.
Due to this sloppy fit, it would be possible for the cable to come loose from the throttle and probably in the most inconvenient place.
I intend to install a ball of larger diameter to cure this situation.
The DORMAN part-number for this same application/cable is #04196

I hope this information is useful to someone.

Good replacement for my 1985 Ford F250 6.9 IDI. Little longer then the one I replaced but the truck started right up after replacement with this cable.

  5. Scott

This a one size fits all cable and is about 6 inches too long for my 1984 F250 diesel. Also the spring return is a much heavier spring and this affects the cruise control response. The part that clips to the ball stud is loose and may be a safety issue. Original cable is obsolete so no other choice. I am going to try E9TZ-9A758U and see if it works. Update: the cable popped off the ball stud lever while on driving on the highway on cruise control. Just lucky it was low traffic and I could coast over to the side of the highway.

  6. W. J.

No problem! Fit my 1985 f150 with the 302 fuel injected perfectly.

  7. MickeyD

    Worked as expected.

  8. Jerry B

This is exactly what I needed for my 87 F150. Its not exactly OEM, but it looks like its made better and had brackets with it.

  9. marine

This item for the price works, mounted up nicely. Fit my 1988 Ford F150 custom 4×4 5.8 liter. Not as stout as the original OEM throttle cable with 200,000 miles on it,the only reason I replace it was due to the mounting bracket on the old cable was broken and the last seller used zip ties, not a safe option. But the new cable works so far.
