As many here attest, this is the unit that should have been supplied with the Garmin GPS.
I’ve tried various types of mounts: the vent mount and the beanbag mount. The vent clips had a tenacious attachment to the vent fins. Even the smallest beanbag mount was cumbersome.
This gooseneck unit is small enough to take with me or stuff into the glove compartment when not in use. It comes with the gooseneck mount, a 3″ mounting disk, and one alcohol prep pad.
From the photo, I thought this was going to be “flexible” as in the wimpy sort of flexible on my gooseneck desk lamps. When I tried to flex it, it felt practically unbendable. I thought Arkon made a mistake and put a normal straight steel rod inside.
Then I read the directions. You have to use both hands to bend the inner rod in the tube. After you mount this to the windshield, you cannot rebend the gooseneck easily with one hand. And that’s a good thing because the rigidity keeps it from bouncing. You can make horizontal adjustments by loosening the nut. The suction cup has plenty of suction at 2-3/4″ in diameter, compared to the Garmin’s 2-1/4″.
Now I can actually reach the GPS screen, and it’s at proper eye level. Excellent little device.

This Garmin windshield mount works well. The flexible ‘goose neck’ is very sturdy, but somewhat misleading when viewed on line. It’s actually not a fluid, easy to adjust flexible neck of the type used for camera mounts that have numerous interlocking swivel points but, instead, it’s a solid, malleable steel bar with a cosmetic plastic sleeve of the type that’s commonly used to encase exposed wiring. The steel bar requires some muscling to adjust to your specific needs, but once you have it set at the angle(s) that you require to hold your device securely, it’s solid. Note that the suction cup, while of good quality, will NOT adhere to anything other than your glass windshield and ONLY to an area that is dead flat. If you attempt to place it on any part of your windshield that has even the slightest curvature, it will not work.

Worked well to get a larger Garmin GPS out of the corner of the dash where it blocked the view of the road. Sturdy, adheres well to the glass. Just what I needed.

Works perfectly, if you mount it in a stabilized condition. There is no other product that can do this as this one can.
This extension is very stiff, it has to be that way for stabilization, but it still can bounce around a little. One must be aware of this, but there is a cure. Lower the Garmin to allow at least one lower corner to rest or just touch the dash. This will stabilize the unit completely. This you’ll have to plan for this and not have it completely suspended.

This mount extends the distance the GPS can be mounted so that it is closer to the user which means I don’t have to lean forward to reach the touch screen. The suction cup is strong and hold the GPS well. However, the extra length means that the GPS vibrates a little bit when the car is moving. This does not make it hard to use the touch screen but it is not as stable as it is with the supplied mount meaning there is a tradeoff for having the GPS mounted so it is easier to reach.

I wanted something as my iPhone 5S, being taller than my iPhone 4S, would hit the windshield when I would pull it out of its socket (I’m using a ProClip holder).
I couldn’t decide on this or the GN02 5″, and with the cost of returns, decided to try them both. I found the 8″ vibrated too much and brought it too far off my windshield for my tastes (I have a 2007 Mercedes E350). But, if you can mount it so part can rest on your dash or some where else, it also works well to extend items from the windshield.
BTW, I was hesitant to buy the the 5″ GN022 as I couldn’t find a single review of it and it isn’t secured by the normal lever mechanism, but by twisting a ring (you can see the hand-holds for it on the big end if you look it up).
As the windshield is sloped, moving the mounting point higher/lower on the window doesn’t help.
Turns out the 5″ works great! It brings it a bit closer to me, that is an extra bonus, went on well, hasn’t fallen off yet, and does have minimal vibration. I go over a mile or so of brick pavers to/from work everyday, so it gets a much harder workout vibration-wise than most folks will ever give it.

Fixed a problem with mounting GPS on dash of motorhome. Worked great, I was able to mount GPS/Front camera on dash with no forward obstructoin.

I love having a GPS in my car and when my old mount no longer would remain mounted through a day, I replaced it with this mount.
The mount has a larger suction cup than my original Garmin mount. For most people this will not be an issue since you are just going to stick it on the windshield. However, I have a custom mount in my truck for the dash and it does not fit great.
Also, the sleeve over the flexible neck is just a cover and moves when you adjust the location. This seems a little cheap.
However, what matters is how it mounts and how it holds a GPS. It does a great job at that and I love all the different angles that it can reach.
