I have a Subaru forester xs 2004, and this fit my car perfectly. Back up camera works well, and I love being able to use CarPlay with my vehicle. With CarPlay enabled, I’m allowed to get alerts and locations on my car while I’m away from it, which I normally wouldn’t be able to do without the device. It was easy to install everything, only took about an hour. Conveniently, this has android auto as well for those who don’t have an apple device. I also realized that there are other apps you can download, along with still being able to access local radio stations. It seems like you can also download images, videos, and music to the device to personalize it more. I haven’t explored that feature much, but it is cool nonetheless. With new phone use and driving laws, I couldn’t previously use my phone to navigate while driving. Now I can seamlessly navigate from my car with this device, by using my own voice from the microphone provided. Other than navigation, the majority of the time I use this to access Spotify from my car. It’s definitely made a major change in my life/car and that’s awesome considering how cheap the installation kit is. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone who has an older vehicle.

It was a pretty straightforward install for my 06 Impreza. My only concern is once installed I’m not getting enough power to my speakers anymore so they have to be cranked all the way up. It’s great value until you add in the cost of an amplifier once it can’t power your door speakers. It did take some slight modifications to get finished up mounting in my Impreza but anyone with some tin snips and elbow grease could make it work.

This head unit is great. Comes with the whole trim piece and you just have to swap the vents and AC controls. Easy as cake. UI is a bit wonky but you get what you pay for. The other review for this head unit mentions that your speakers will have to be the next upgrade. What they meant by that is that the on board amplifier in this head unit isn’t very powerful. Max volume is probably as loud as you’d want to listen to music comfortably but in all honesty you’ll want to add an amp to boost the sound level at some point. That’s my next upgrade for my forester. Highly recommend this head unit to start with though. Took me 15 minutes to install.

In installed this in a 2005 Forester with manual environmental controls. Watch out for this one: The manual controls include two cables that criss-cross from the control knobs to underneath the dash. These have to be unhooked from the ventilation plenum before you can remove the old unit, then reinstalled correctly. There is very little information online about how to do this. Just know that you’ll have to get down on the floorboard and reach up into the bottom of the dash space to unhook them and pull their retaining clips loose.
1. Pro: The screen is very clear and very bright.
Con: It’s too bright at night and there is no brightness control! I installed an app from the Play Store that let’s me control the brightness but it has to be turned on when I need it.
2. Pro: It starts up FAST, just about instantaneously.
Con: It still takes a while for the phone to connect and start up Android Auto, but it’s not too bad.
3. Pro: It is a fully functional Android 13 device, meaning you can install apps on it.
Con: It uses an app called “ZLinks” to host Android Auto. It’s like it’s an emulator running on a host machine. This adds to the complexity of the navigation.
4. Pro: It has an app that can be installed on your phone that allows it to mirror the phone.
Con: It’s a bare APK with a Chinese name. APK is a raw Android app that hasn’t been through the Play Store approval process. I haven’t installed it due to security and quality concerns.
5. Pro: The touchscreen is nice, isn’t prone to fingerprints, and is responsive.
Con: The targeting areas can be small.
6. Pro: It’s builtin navigation app, Waze, and OnX maps look great.
Con: They can be a little jumpy, like they are taxing the CPU.
No comment on the backup camera because I haven’t installed it but it seems pretty standard. I have run the wires for it but I have not installed it yet because I have not figured out how to use it with my 2005 Forester’s hatch. The trigger wire to the reverse light is way too short to reach from the center of the hatch to the corner where the light is.

Plugs right in, transferred some of the old trim and stuff over but extremely easy, no wiring required unless you want to utilize the rear view camera. Amazing unit. Would 100% recommend to anyone. Took less than 10 minutes to install

This stereo fit perfectly and looks amazing!! The screen picture quality and graphics are pretty good. But navigating through the menus is difficult and the sound quality while playing music is quite bad.

Installed this Android radio with Apple CarPlay in my Forster (2002-2008) and it’s been a game-changer! Works flawlessly, better than expected. Quick and easy installation—had it done in under an hour. Beware: you’ll realize how limited stock speakers are, so your next upgrade might be inevitable. Screen includes a bezel for radio, vents and temperature controls, you will need to grab eight screws to swap temp control into bezel. Wiring harness is plug-and-play. Don’t forget to remove the screen film pre-configuration or end up needing to recalibration, like i did. Solid Apple CarPlay functionality and extreme affordability earn it a solid five stars from me. 10 days in, and I’m one happy driver. Will update if anything changes, but for now, it’s a must-buy for 02-08 Forster owners.
