   Nice covers, strong adhesive. They look more streamlined than they are, but there’s only so much streamlining that physics will allow with the AirTag mini-pucks…Still, allows me to attach one to my Kindle.

   I have tested a few Apple AirTag mounts/holders and one of my common concerns / issues is how they typically design the ability to remove the AirTag iteself from the holder to replace the battery. In most cases, the design isn’t watertight, and requires prying off or unscrewing tiny screws to remove one half of the holder to get at the AirTag. As most people place their AirTags in faIrly hidden places, getting at that with a finicky small screwdriver is effectively impossible. And attempting to pry apart the cover usually results in the adhesive tape just giving up, and coming off altogether. Obviously not ideal.

   I like this holder especially for several reasons:

   – It is IP68 waterproof. The holders come with a silicon ring inside so that when you place the AirTag face down on it, it forms a nice seal that prevents water from reaching the cover of the AirTag, which by itself, is not watertight as far as I know. (Important Note: Based on the design, it does appear that you HAVE to place the AirTag with the shiny metal face against the silicon ring inside the holder. The screw thread of the holder itself is not likely waterproof as there is no rubber gasket that would prevent water from getting past the threads It is simply the silicon ring against the face of the tag that likely stops any water intruding into the vulnerable part of the AirTag. There is no documentation for these, but definitely pay attention to the placement of your AirTag in the device.)

   – The device is very small. Barely much bigger that the AirTag itself, this holder/mount can easily be hidden almost anywhere that you can stick to a smooth flat surface. The form factor is just a small unobtrusive black circle that, depending on your application, might even be mistaken as part of the thing you have adhered it to. (I stick mine under my bike seat, and you really have to look closely to even know it is there.)

   – The cover unscrews. This eliminates any need to pry apart plastic parts, or use a super tiny screwdriver to remove your AirTag. My old holder that I used on my e-bike had a cover that snapped together, and attempting to pry it open to replace the battery just popped the entire thing off, including the adhesive tape, making it effectively un-reusable. This model allows for simply unscrewing the cover to remove the AirTag, which should not interfere with the adhesive itself (hopefully. The 3M VHB adhesive is about as good as it gets, so I am comfortable it will hold without any issues.)

   – My only concern with this design is that there isn’t much texture or any tabs that allow better leverage when unscrewing the cover. So if the plastic thread gets stuck, and you don’t have an ability to put significant pressure on the cover to twist it (based on awkward placement of the cover on whatever you have stuck it to,), it may be difficult to remove the cover to get at the AirTag. This shouldn’t be a big deal as you shouldn’t need to do that frequently, but just a thought.

   I am very happy with this AirTag holder/mount.

   Easy to install and seem to be secure. They twist and lock very nicely and fit the Apple AirTag perfectly. Don’t know if they’re truly waterproof as mine are installed inside a glovebox in my cars.

   Rating summary (5 out of 5 stars) – This thing is rugged and basically life proof. You will not regret it and won’t have to worry about it helping keep your valuables safe.

   Positives:

   1 – Lifetime guarantee
   2 – Durable Polycarbonate material – Polycarbonate is a polymer that is known for its toughness and high impact strength. It maintains a toughness value between -20°C to 140°C and is virtually unbreakable. The ultimate tensile strength of polycarbonate is 60 MPa. Polycarbonate sheeting is also known for its outstanding impact resistance, which is 250 times greater than that of glass.
   3 – Aerodynamic shape – its rounded edges and low profile will help it stay secure even with wind or water pushing against it in most cases.
   5 – Size – Small enough to stick to most surfaces and can fit into tight spaces.
   6 – Sound (and signal) pass through. Sound is 1/2 the volume. The signal part is expected by default because you would need that to even use it with an AirTag.
   7 – Strong adhesive – 3M VHB ***see reminder note at the bottom of this review***
   8 – It’s matte black color – this will help it not stick out wherever you put it (it won’t reflect light like a shiny black surface would)
   9 – Waterproof & Dustproof
   IP66 rating – this basically means that it is dust and rain proof.

   *IP ratings are outlined in the international standard EN 60529 (British BS EN 60529:1992, European IEC 60509:1989)

   *6 (first digit) = “Completely dustproof. This means that the equipment/panel has been tested against continuous airflow, includes a vacuum seal and is fully protected against dust and any other small particles.”

   *8 ‎ =  “Protection against full immersion in water or liquids at deeper depths and higher pressure. The figures that are achieved will be shown by the manufacturer.”

   Negatives:

   1 – None if you follow basic adhesion guidelines I noted above and can easily be found online.

   Final thoughts and observations:

   Since the most common use for AirTags is to keep track of your belongings/valuables it only makes sense that it would be critical to anyone that an AirTag stays with the valuable. In some cases, a clipped AirTag holder will work just fine but as many of you likely already know, or will learn, there are so many items that don’t have something to clip onto and only an adhesive holder will work (it’s a bonus that this holder is small because that just means it can be stuck onto even more things, and in tighter areas).

   This thing is now in one of my kayaks (kayak hatch) that I take out on the ocean/lake. I leave the kayak in a non-heated garage all year round. We have had some pretty chilly days recently and to test the AirTag holder I have gone out and used some intense compressed air on it (on the chilliest evening-near freezing) to see if I could even come close to having it come lose. It didn’t even notice it. I actually think it laughed at me hahaha.

   With how reliable this is, especially at this price, I will absolutely be buying more of these and the next one will go on my bike.

   ***Reminders***

   1- The 3M – VHB adhesive is strong but it is not fool proof. To help make sure that doesn’t happen you should do some quick reading on 3M – VHB adhesive (go to the 3M website-> Resources -> Applying 3M VHB Tapes) and learn the optimal process to use it. I recommend reading that material for general adhesive knowledge because adhesives are used all around us and it comes in handy from time to time. For most people, without extra tools and the added bonus performance enhancing steps in the adhesive application process, it will come down just cleaning, manual application, and finally applying pressure.

   For best environmental conditions with applying 3M VHB tape:

   Temperature range: 60°F to 100°F (21°C to 38°C)
   Dry surface: Ensure that the surfaces are dry and free of condensed moisture.

   1-Cleaning

   Step 1 – Wet cloth with cleaning solution if needed to remove contaminants

   Use a disposable towel or cloth (light colors preferred to show contaminant removal) with a solvent.

   Solvent to use (for example contaminant)
   Isopropyl alcohol solut (70% IPA/30% water) = Dust, dirt, fingerprints
   Acetone = Oily substances

   Step 2 – Wipe with dry cloth

   2-Manual application

   Start with placing the edge of the adhesive side of the AirTag holder to the substrate (what you want to stick it to) and then gradually push the rest of the adhesive pad down onto it.

   3-Applying Pressure

   Pressure: Exceed 15 psi to ensure effective wet-out and strong adhesion.
