Installed this alternator and within 1 minute of running there was a loud whining noise. Checked the alternator and it was extremely hot (350*F with an infrared temp gun) and had a high pitch whining noise while running. Removed the post and had over 1 ohm of resistance between the 12V post and case of the alternator which means it is grounded internally. ACdelco is usually quality but this faulty piece almost burnt my car down.
***update to make this even better Amazon apparently excludes this item from its return policy so i cant even get my money back for this useless defective unit.
Update #2 one month later nothing was done by either amazon or acdelco to correct the defective unit they gave me after i filed support requests.

My 40k mile, stock 01 T/A developed flickering lights and eratic voltage. It also had a belt chirp at start up that would clear up after a few miles…. Bought a new AC Delco # 335 1075 alternator.
After much research on the internet, I decided that I should also replace the idler and tensioner pulleys while I had it apart..
Went with the Gates idler 38041 pulley because was considerably less expensive than the OEM pulley.
Used the ACdelco 38008 pulley instead of replacing the whole tensioner assembly.
Fixed all ! Very satisfied with the results.
FYI- I would also suggest buying a new wiring connector pigtail for the alternator. They are easily broken or damaged during the removal process. Good to have one on hand…just in case.

Seems to be well made. Did have whine sound and found that Tech Service phone number on enclosed sheet appears to be out of service. Being persistent ultimately tracked down someone within GM who advised that “99% of the time noise is caused by old serpentine belt on new pulley” and also suggested that using a real GM belt is worthwhile as some aftermarket belts are over length and thus have less tension.

Alternator was an exact replacement and is doing the job. Price was reasonable for a quality rebuild. The only issue was that when it arrived, the plastic rear cover was broken by rough handling in shipment. Amazon needs to do a better job of securing heavy items instead of throwing all the order in a big box with a some pillows. The heavy items shift around acting like a battering ram and can be slammed so hard that something breaks. In this case, since I needed it immediately, some crazy glue did the job. It was not broken it would be a 5 star deal.

I can be proven otherwise but I think ACDelco is the best brand for Pontiacs. Even though the first ACDelco Gold alternator I purchased here for my Firebird had a voltage regulator fail after a few months (volts started spiking and remaining high), there’s unfortunately no better option for Pontiacs so I bought another ACDelco Gold one to replace it. This new one has stable voltage at 14.4 volts at various RPM’s and doesn’t squeal so I am hoping it lasts.
BTW I had purchased an ACDelco Gold alternator for my Honda Civic a few years ago and it failed after about 20K miles because the bearings were shot but I did notice a dent in the alternator pulley/flywheel when I got it so it was probably dropped on its flywheel during shipping which damaged the bearings and caused an early failure. I see other reviews on here that the alternators are squealing or have bearing failures and I think shipping damage might often be the culprit
