The Check Engine light came on in my granddaughter’s 2008 Malibu. This happened when I took the car in to the dealer for a front alignment check. The scanner showed it was a cam sensor position sensor, which the service advisor said was not dangerous.
I researched on YouTube and determined that more than likely the sensor was just bad so I ordered and installed this new sensor. It’s a simple job, using a 10 mm socket and unplugging the wire harness from the sensor, installing the new one (rub a little engine oil on the o-ring) and plug the harness back in and snug in the bolt.

In my case, it has made all the difference. For a year, I have battled with reduced engine performance and lower fuel economy, not to mention sporadic “cylinder #3 misfire” codes. Yet, the car always started and ran smoothly, giving no indication as to what really was the matter. I thoroughly diagnosed the problem, i.e. moving plugs and coils to different cylinders to try and move the condition thereby determining if an ignition component was at fault. No joy. I changed the plugs as a matter of course because they were getting a bit long in the tooth anyway. Still, no joy. One day, I made a real concerted effort to get to the bottom of things. I have my FACTORY shop manual and discovered that a misfire code can be thrown without there actually being a fault in the ignition system. This led me to think about what else could be at cause. The camshaft position sensor was the easiest to replace and the cost was nominal, and of course, if the cam is not in time with the rest of the gubbins, the machine isn’t going to run right. I can report that it completely solved my performance, fuel economy and error code problems!
If I had taken it to the dealer, they would have sold me everything including the kitchen sink under the guise that I should replace all the plugs, coils, and sensors anyway! I saved myself a boat load of cash and got my car back to where it should have been. I purchased my sensor from Amazon because of the service and also because they had the lowest price for an OEM part. I can recommend this as a probable fix if you have covered all the bases and still have the problems. It did the job for me.

I learned my lesson long ago, purchase OEM parts and you will have no problems. Especially with electronics.

I bought this for my Chevy cobalt, It is a ac Delco upgrade, which I like. And also saved $21.00 dollars compared to if bought at my local automotive store, which is excellent. And it’s a perfect fit 😁.

I had been fighting to get rid of code P0017 in my 2017 Equinox. Replaced both cam shaft sensors with cheap sensors from RA, and didn’t go away. Finally ordered these, and the code went away immediately.
