Should have got these a long time ago! Ok, sadly one of my old cables had snapped a long time ago. I removed the pieces so no damage to the paint was incurred but I have noticed the tailgate became harder to close securely. That was because the unsupported side was getting bent out of shape everytime weight was applied. It’s not terrible yet but I can’t believe I was needlessly damaging my truck. The worst (or best) part is Installation was so easy and only took minutes. The new straps function just like the originals, or in my case the last set of OEM I over paid for at the stealership. Perfect fit at a good price. They appear to be made well and seem very strong. I love fixing the easy items like this, they’re something I use all the time and didn’t even realize it. It makes me feel better knowing there’s one less to-do on my aging but still reliable Tacoma. 300k+ miles and still starts everytime.

Tail gate cables tend to rust inside the vinyl coating so that you can never tell when they are going to break. That can be a nasty surprise, so I replace them after a few years, to be safe. These fit my 2001 Tacoma well and they look like they should last as long as the OEM ones. Recommended.
