Don’t waste your money. This is cheap junk that does not work. I decided to try this $20 sensor considering the OEM costs $200+. The car was showing the fault code for oil level sensor. Installed this sensor, cleared codes, but fault still in the ECU system and oil temp gauge did not work. Bought a $60 Hella-brand sensor, who are an OEM supplier to BMW, and went through the same install and code-clearing process. Immediately, the car showed no faults and the temp gauge has been working.

The bolt pattern for this item does not match the E54. Its close but does not align.

Avoid it. The OEM BMW oil sensor was the Hella brand, and that worked. I thought the aftermarket folks could surely figured how an oil sensor worked. I couldn’t get to find out whether it worked or not because it won’t even fit. Such a waste of time, money and earth’s resources.

The E46 Hacker –
The sensor fits almost perfectly the only problem that I had was when attaching the harness to the sensor, the electrical connector, it didn’t fully clip on.
The electrical connector is fully on although it doesn’t hold into place as well as the original sensor. The original sensor clicks into place and you can’t pull it off without squeezing it, this one if you pull hard enough on the electrical connector it will come right off.
It won’t come off under regular driving conditions so do not worry. good luck.

On board computer does not recognize the part. Currently shows I have no level sensor installed. Not able to monitor oil level. I do not recommend to buy this part.
