BMW X5 E53: This Fuel Pump Module which sits on the rear RHS (passenger) has a pump and also fuel level indicator. For proper operation, buy and install the fuel tank sender assembly, also, which is on LHS (Driver side). Both of these together should give a better fuel level indicator status on the dash. This unit has just been installed so don’t really know its life span. Hopefully will not get stranded somewhere or worse. The motor is whisper quiet and can barely hear it. The price is way way low than an OEM.

Note for DIY: do not block the return line to other unit .. and make sure seals are seated in ring of tank not around unit before installing … Be careful with using plyers to remove old fuel and putting new ones on the plastic can and will break if you apply to much force… Take your time… Tank has to have some fuel to prime … Good luck….

Plug and play which works perfect! Only thing that I could recommend is to include a proper hose clamp for fuel intake hose. I was pleasantly surprised when the 3.0L started up instantly! The vehicle has reverted back to one of its original symptoms of a faulty gauge as fuel will empty and show a reading on the gauge between half and a quarter tank. Basically I use it as a truck now to haul my tools and equipment around, so in order to not waste any more time diagnosing I will just always keep it above a half a tank and watch my mileage.
