Though this arrived quickly and at a good price, it is not good quality or performance. It installed easily as others do, but would not hold its alignment, immediately on its recent installation it turned square and it locked the shifting to the point the boat gear changes were no longer functional. Terrible product. Without a doubt this is nowhere near being a Mercruiser part or level of quality or function. Do not buy.

Biggest hunk of junk I ever bought from Amazon.
Not sure where it’s made, but I suspect China.
Thing fell apart during assembly. The NPT thread, a brass colored thing that is made of steel, was the wrong size and trashed the threads in my bellhousing. Then the ‘brass colored’ ends came off the outer sheath. One came off and got stuck in the shift cable bellows when I decided to take off this piece of crap. None of the parts are interchangeable with Mecruiser.
DO NOT BUY!!!!!

Shift cable snapped at the brass and the first 10 minutes on the water makes for a real long day on boat this big

I bought this shift cable for my alpha 1 gen 1 outdrive project. I had forgot to order one with the Bellows and other parts that I was replacing and I needed it ASAP. This particular cable was the only cable available prime with 2-day shipping. I ignored the several poor reviews indicating bad quality and poor fitment as I did not have any other options. Anyone who has done a shift cable on a Mercruiser knows that it is not a 5-minute job and is somewhat involved. At first glance the cable looked okay as I did not have a OEM product to compare it to. I installed the cable and inner core, then reinstalled the outdrive. It was only at the very end of the project where the shift cable kit showed it’s poor quality. Upon performing The Adjustment procedure I found that the end that attaches at the engine end of the cable was broken, most likely arrived in the mail that way but I did not notice until the cable was already installed. Too late too warranty without total disassembly. I also noticed that the cable core was quite difficult to move in and out of the casing. I reused the end piece from the old cable as it was not damaged and that part went okay. After adjusting the cable and launching the boat for a test I was able to shift the boat maybe one or two times from forward to reverse and then the cable snapped right where one of the other reviews indicated that it would. So I had no choice but to totally disassemble the whole outdrive again and I returned the cable for a refund. Knowing what I know now after purchasing a OEM quality cable I would never buy this cable again it is very inferior in quality and the internal core is a totally different design. The new cable is very easy to slide in and out unlike the Amazon cable. I knew I was taking a risk using this product and I ended up on the short end. Just Spend the money on at least a Sierra if not a OEM Mercruiser cable. It’s hard enough to change where you don’t want to have to do it again. Do it once and done. I’m a mechanic and I use Amazon parts on some of my beater cars with good results…this was not one of those times.
