    The 4L30-E was used in a bunch of different vehicles across manufacturers. At this point, they’re almost all hitting the point in their service life where they need a rebuild. Now if you’re an advanced level shade tree like me, you’ve probably thought that rebuilding trannies is a bit too much, even if you’ve rebuilt an engine before. Trust me – it’s not. And with this manual as reference, a few extra specialty tools, you can save literally thousands on a rebuilt tranny that will last you another 200,000 miles easy. And since this particular transmission was used in tens of millions of vehicles from BMW to GM to Isuzu, you can buy cores super cheap and take your time to do the rebuild right. Or, if you’re looking for a good cheap transmission for a rear-wheel drive project car, you’ve found it. And because this was a performance automatic in BMW’s, you can find lots of upgrades, tips and tricks to make this transmission a performer for small to medium vehicles. You can also find a few tips on making a better option for an off-road or towing rig for light to medium SUVs. But don’t even think about it if you don’t get this manual first.
