  1. J. Jenkins

I have a 2006 BMW (E90) 330xi with a detached rearview mirror. I used several different adhesive products attempting to re-attach the mirror, some specifically designed to re-attach rearview mirrors, some not designed for the task, but designed to attach metal to glass. I purchased 3M High Bond Rearview Mirror Adhesive out of desperation, and just like the other bands that I used previously, I came away disappointed.

First, let me say that I followed the directions printed on the package to the letter. I scraped the old glue from the window with a razor blade, used a brand new metal button, thoroughly cleaned the window and button with an alcohol/water solution, used the activator and one drop of adhesive exactly as directed in the instructions. Although, the advertising on the package says cure time is 15 minutes, I waited over 24 hours to attach the mirror. I attached the mirror and the surrounding frame and thought I had finally solved my rearview problem. On Monday morning, I drove my car to work with a fully functioning rearview mirror.

During the day, outside temperatures topped 95 degrees, and I’m sure temperatures inside the car were well above 100 degrees, but what I was most disappointed about was that the rearview mirror was hanging by the wiring harness when I returned to the car later that evening. 3M High Bond Rearview Mirror Adhesive bonded the mirror to the window for less than 36 hours.

I was about to give up and go to the BMW dealer, where I’m sure they would have wanted the equivalent of my child’s 1st semester of college tuition, to re-attach a quarter-sized metal button to glass. I had to try to fix it one more time before resorting to extortion from the dealer.

So I went to Auto Zone and purchased Permatex Extreme Rear View Mirror Adhesive. Take note, I did not say Permatex Rear View Mirror Adhesive; there’s another word in the title–EXTREME. Needless to say, that product worked, and I can finally use my rearview again like the other 99% of drivers.

If you have a heavy mirror, use Permatex Extreme Rear View Mirror Adhesive. It worked for me.

    – Update 7/23/2021
    *******************************************************************************************************************
Disregard all of the glowing remarks I wrote about Permatex Extreme Rear View Mirror Adhesive. The bond lasted for about 72 hours and then fell victim to an extremely hot July day. In an act of desperation, I called the BMW dealer to ask for a price quote to re-attach the mirror, and just as I expected, the quote was exorbitant; coming in at $169 and up.
I couldn’t stomach dealer pricing, so I called a couple of auto glass repair companies. The first repair shop quoted $50 and he said he would meet me at my residence two days later. He was a no-show. The second repair shop asked me to bring the car to their shop in the early morning before repair techs head out for early morning repairs, and they would fix it for free. I’ll update this post after the repair is complete and an observation period of at least 30 days has past. –More to follow.

    – Final Update 8/22/22
    *******************************************************************************************************************
The second repair windshield repair shop managed to glue the mirror holder button back on, but he had to use a lot of glue to get it to stick. And once again, the fix didn’t last long. The mirror stayed on for about a week before it fell victim to a hot day also. However, this time the glue heated the button up so much that it cracked my windshield. The crack starts a the button location and runs right down the middle to the bottom of the windshield. Now I have no choice, I have to replace the windshield. New windshields come with the button already attached.

I bought this because it looked like it had a lot of good reviews. Here’s how it went-Followed instructions to a “T”. Even let it setup longer. I didn’t even touch the mirror to the plate on the windshield and it fell off! 1 time use. Do not recommend. Total waste of time and money.

  3. Cody

Followed all the directions exactly. Didn’t work at all. Mirror came back off the next day.

Perfect bond for rear view mirror mount for all type of cars.

I purchased this product to fix the rear view mirror bracket of my Skoda Superb car. It bonds quickly and makes very strong bond in 1minute. All you need is, you should follow instructions clearly to get perfect results. It fails only if you didn’t follow the instructions.. For me it works on the first attempt itself. Very good product from the manufacturer.. Thanks a lot.

  5. The Central Scrutinizer

It’s a two-step process. 1. Apply the ‘activator.’ This is very runny stuff that’s blue. You swab it on both surfaces then wait 5 minutes. 2. Apply the adhesive. This is thicker stuff that you apply only to mounting ‘button’ not the windshield.

Hold down for a minute. The mounting button should stay stuck on. Wait about 15 minutes and slide your mirror on.

Worked exactly as described for me.

Just triple check that you’re gluing the mounting ‘button’ on in the proper orientation. If you mess up you have to pull it off and that may not be easy.

Also, if you have any trim pieces that hide wiring and such, make sure it’s all in in place before you glue on the button as the mounting angles may be such that it’s difficult after the fact. This happend to me. Luckily I was able to bend the plastic trim into place without it breaking after I had the mirror on.

I needed this product because my mirror feel off on a very hot day after 23 years. If it happens again I would buy this product, assuming it stays stuck on for many years to come.

  6. Sidewayz

Followed glueing prep and the process. Bad news is I reversed the mount “button”. Had to remove the mount I had just glued. Had to heat mount up with butane lighter and pry off with scraper Wasn’t easy!
Plenty of activator, but literally, only three drops of glue. Don’t spill the glue!! After my mount error, went smoothly! Mirror is still hung!!

  7. shopper1

3M quality as usual. Take the time to read the instructions for proper use; then after that it is very fast and easy to use. When installing the mounting base on the windshield make sure you have it set exactly where you want it within 10 seconds because the adhesive glue sets up very fast!

  8. A Purple Cow

It’s been a hot summer and my mirrot fell off. The first time I tried this glue, I followed the instructions exactly. They say to spread the activator, wait a few minutes, and put a drop of glue on the button (and smoosh it around a bit against the windshield). This DID NOT WORK for me. The button fell off the next day (I waited 24 hours) when I tried to attach the mirror.

I tried again with the rest of the activator (not much) left in the package, and all the glue left. This time I covered the button in glue. Once again I waited 24 hours. (The instructions didn’t say to do this, but I figured I would just to be safe.) Attached the mirror with no problem and it’s been a month now and it’s going strong. Fingers crossed it continues like that!

  9. Lynn Arrington

I used the 3M Rearview Mirror Adhesive to reattach my mirror, and it did the job perfectly! The adhesive is strong, dries quickly, and is easy to use. It’s a great value for the price. Very impressed with how well it works!

  10. Lakeside49

I tried two OTHER brands and followed their instructions implicitly. I am a long time auto restoration enthusiast and clearly understand how to re-affix a rearview mirror. Neither worked for some reason, as if the catalyst for the apoxy was expired, or something. So, I ordered this one hoping that three times is a charm and it worked perfectly. This was last summer so the mirror has endured three seasons including hot and cold and the rearview mirror is still flawlessly affixed.
