Just installed two of these in the trunk of a 2011 Ford Fusion SEL. It seems like a very good value product (a dealer might charge as much as 5 times the price) and is a snap to install, BUT ONLY IF YOU DO IT CAREFULLY. On one of them I carelessly managed not to just lift the retaining clip up enough to slip the strut socket on over the bulb joint (takes only the thickness of the screwdriver blade), but popped it ALL the way off. If you do this you will never get the retainer clip back on without prying it open a bit and losing a really tight fit. You can recover a sufficiently tight fit by placing a small worm screw band around the sprung clip and thus forcing it tightly closed. But don’t be careless like me; do it right and DO NOT POP THE RETAINER CLIP ALL THE WAY OFF. Rookie mistake!

I wish I’d read the review that these struts don’t lift the trunk lid automatically when the latch is remotely released, minus one star for what I think was a fair assumption. These were installed on a 2011 Ford Fusion SEL. I didn’t own this vehicle new, so maybe the original struts didn’t do this either? However it doesn’t take much of a pull with one hand to lift the lid, then the struts take over with a powerful assist — up it goes, then WHAM against the hinge stop! I’m assuming the hydraulics will calm down a bit after some use. Definitely better than the old struts as they keep the trunk open completely, but I do wonder if I was sent the model for the trunk with a spoiler since the lift is so strong? In other words, the struts behave as if the trunk should be heavier than it is without a spoiler.

When my trunk stopped working properly (it became hard to open, but slammed itself closed) I thought it wouldn’t be an easy repair. I was pleased that I could just grab two of these and swap them out in a minute or two. I just needed to use a screwdriver to pull up the clamp plate on the old one and then pull them off, and then I could just pop on the new ones.

After years of just leaving my trunk broken because I assumed it would be an expensive repair for an old Ford Fusion, I found these struts. I wondered how good they’d be since they were so inexpensive. I am impressed! These struts were easy for me to put on and now my trunk doesn’t slam down and hit anyone on the head! I’m so happy! I should have bought them when the parts originally broke! Get these, you will be glad that you did.

These are installed and working. I found them to be very strong and could not compress them on a bench or by hand. I struggled with getting them attached because they were fully extended and did not align to the attaching bracket. It required some force to get installed. It works for me.

Almost from new the trunk had no ability to hold itself open. After years of cursing we said it looks easy enough to replace the pistons. (You Tube video) We just had to find them at a lot less than $42.00 parts and $95.00 to install. Many retailers had these in stock at various prices and delivery charges. We decided on an Amazon purchase with Prime no charge delivery. Parts arrived on time and installed in about 35 minutes. Needed a hammer for a little persuasion. Hint, DO NOT REMOVE CLIPS. Very happy and no more trunk falling. Highly reccommend this product

Arrived quickly. Well made. Installed both struts in 5 minutes. Operate great. They hold the trunk lid better than original equipment.

  8. Over

The trunk structs on my older car had completely worn out. They weren’t holding up the trunk lid very well anymore. It took only a few minutes to install these and now the trunk is like new again.
