I purchased the hood assist lift kit in April, 2024 for my new Ford Maverick. It arrived in a timely manner. It was relatively easy to install. Three months later, I popped my hood in order to add washer fluid. After releasing the latch, I lifted the hood…and it flew up as if it had been shot out of a cannon. Simply put, the piston rods were defective. I was able to temporarily remedy the problem by removing one of the rods. Now, with only one rod in place, it doesn’t have the power to “shoot” up. However, it also doesn’t have the power to hold the hood fully up. After raising the hood, it drops down a couple of inches before holding. Since three months is beyond Amazon’s return window–I was directed to contact Klutchtech directly. I followed the prompts from Amazon to their contact page, and filled out the info. It has been more than two weeks, and they have never responded. I did attempt to locate the warranty information for this product on their website (since it’s not available from Amazon). However, it appears that they no longer manufacture/sell Ford Maverick accessories. Unable to find the hood assist lift for the Maverick on their website–obviously there was no warranty information noted. Klutchtech is not located in the U.S. In my opinion, this is not necessarily a reason to avoid Klutchtech. However, if they’re using their ‘foreign’ status to circumvent reasonable customer service norms, well…that’s the reason for “1-star.” Just know this: IF you purchase from Klutchtech–do so at your own risk.
UPDATE: I was contacted twice by Klutchtec. First, in response to a message I left on their website. They offered to ship (free of charge) a replacement kit–which I accepted. A couple of days later, they contacted me in response to this review with an offer of a full refund. I had already secured a refund from Amazon, so I declined. I only wish they were more vigilant with their customer service efforts in the beginning. They finally came through (operative word: “finally.”)

Installed very carefully, kept exact hood alignment and then couldnt open hood. Should have been a red flag reading the install instructions which are badly written and in black and white ,yet they refer to red circles on a black and white photo!
These are going back and i’ll pay more for a set that works.
Its a shame because the finish is nice.

Don’t let the title of this review discourage you from buying this kit. First of all, I own a 2022 Maverick Hybrid and the brackets in this kit were heavy duty, had the correct hole spacing, and bolted on with ease. The struts were the correct length and the included hardware was okay – just okay, so I reused a couple factory fasteners due to a superior finish and corrosion protection already on them from Ford.
Installation is actually pretty intuitive, but if you’re not comfortable with adding these with total hand holding, maybe this type of project just isn’t for you – no fault of the kit, just you. There was a whiney complaint about directions in black and white instead of color but the ones in my kit were in full color; maybe the complainer is colorblind and cannot see color differences. Oh well. The one place where the manufacturer needs to make a small change is in the metal bracket of the hood assist spring. It is intended to be bolted to the hood using an existing stud. The problem is there is no hole in the bracket to go over the stud. A couple minutes with a drill easily took care of the hole and the spring went on smoothly. Struts work flawlessly and keep me from having to use the hood prop rod for under hood maintenance tasks. For those who need to have their hands held when adding a kit like this where drilling a simple hole would give them an anxiety attack, again, maybe this type of upgrade is not something their little delicate feelings should attempt – would be totally traumatizing for such a snowflake.
Overall, great kit and worth the small amount the seller charges.

These struts are a must if you like working on your own truck. It took me about half an hour to install and only needs a few tools. My only criticism is that the instructions are a little unclear, and the hood spring did not come with a predrilled hole.

This is a well-made hood strut kit. However, the struts inhibit the hood opening properly. They are almost like a shock absorber that slows the hood opening far enough that it never gets high enough for the 2nd pull of the hood release. I tried realigning the hood, swapping struts, and ultimately came to the conclusion that adding a hood spring was the best fix. After doing so, they are nice, work well, and hold the hood up with just enough tension that its stable without being hard to close. I added this hood spring (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BPXD8MWN/) to the latch bar on the hood itself and it has been great ever since. I am planning on buying a 2nd set for my other Maverick soon.
