I’ve used many different types of battery chargers and this one is great. Simple to use, excellent price and it has never overheated or damaged a battery (a common problem with chargers). It also works great to leave hooked up for equipment that doesn’t get used very often. It will maintain a full charge for long periods without overcharging.

So the wife’s old Miata sits in the driveway a lot with no regular job and me working at home and my Tesla S there available. So, the Tesla does all the miles, and the Miata sits. No surprise, the battery is dead. I know this device is not meant to revive a dead car battery, but I plugged it in anyways and left it for a few days. Now, battery is alive and the car works again. In an older age with my previous ICE engine car I would have just jumped her car. But, my massive electric Tesla S can’t jump a 12V car battery. I have no hardware that would let me do that. Nuts. Yes, my car insurance could have sent someone to jump start her car, but we are in a pandemic and I don’t consider jumping my driveway-parked Miata to be an essential service worth someone risking infection to provide. So, I have a wonky 12V trickle charger that can revive a dead car battery. I’m going to try using it for electroplating.

I wish I had looked closer at the units. I had purchased the same units from Harbor Freight and they didn’t have a good experience with them. They do not keep a battery up. I had a Battery Tender on a truck battery for months and every time I went to it, it was at 13.8 V and it started right up. Last week I took the Battery Tender off and put the Cen-Tech on and today the batteries were dead. They are going in the trash and I’ll pay the extra for Battery Tenders.

I bought this to keep the battery from going flat in the garage (after having replaced two perfectly good batteries ruined by going dead). It does a great job, and it’s a relief to be able to return to the fit after a week or so and find it actually starts right up.

They come from Harbor Freight but they are actually pretty good item, saved my Optima Rrd Top Battery for past 3-4 years in my hotrod, only problem is the exposed wires (connected to the battery clips) deteriorates and leaves bare wires, but electrical tape fixes the problem!

With the pandemic, I’m fortunate enough not to have to venture much into the world, so I don’t drive much. I found that when I did need to go somewhere, the car battery had discharged. Luckily, I have a car jump starter (TACKLIFE T8 800A, which is AWESOME), but it’s not optimal to jump the battery every time I need to go somewhere, plus you have to keep the car running for a while after a jump start, so it will start again (or jump start it again so you can get home, which I can’t imagine is good for the battery).
I happen to run across an ad for one of these types of chargers, which I had never heard of or had need of before, so I looked into them. I found it’s the perfect solution to my problem. This device keeps a charge in my battery, for extended periods of time, so the car starts when I need it.
Please note that this does not charge a battery from 0, it simply keeps the battery from discharging. If you’re in the same situation I was in, where I had to jump start the car first, you need to let the car run/drive around for 20-30 minutes and make sure the car will start again after you shut it off. Then use this float charger to keep that charge. Also – never start the car while the charger is connected and it’s still plugged into the outlet.
