We’ve got this disconnect for our car when we are out of town, and it’s worked well so far. It does a great job isolating the battery and gives some peace of mind when the vehicle is parked for extended periods.
Just a heads-up—this isn’t a small switch, so make sure you’ve got enough room in your battery compartment before installing it. It feels solid and heavy-duty, and is fairly easy to install…

We had a cruder main battery switch on our boat fail and we didn’t notice (although ‘off’ it allowed current to flow). This resulted in a completely dead battery as our boat has a slight parasitic current we can’t locate. We have a switch similar to this on our house battery which is lithium and thus has different terminal sizes (you need to check if you have mixed battery chemistries). We got this for our engine start battery, a huge lead acid model, allowing us to take the start battery completely offline when not needed. This is an added layer of protection as our main battery switch (standard 1,2 or Both) is sometimes left in the wrong position (this happens when you trust your kids to do the Leaving The Boat check of list…). When we received this switch we worked it, On/Off about 200 times and then checked the continuity and it reliably severs the electrical connection. The switch is pretty heavy and solidly built. It couldn’t be easier to install (2 minutes). We view this as simple, cheap insurance against a disappointing trip out to the boat only to have it unable to start. Recommended.

The Boxyouping 12-48V Top Post Battery Disconnect Switch is rated for 300 amps. I’m not sure how many my 25hp mini skid steer needs but it’s 200-300 amps. I did find the posts of the switch were sized to fit the neutral battery post and the positive. It still works fine but I expected to install it on the positive posts. The switch does not “snap” into place when you turn it on/off like some disconnects but it does have a definite end point. I was not able to install the switch in my desired orientation because the clamp bolt was long enough it would hit the housing of the switch. I was able to position the switch in a different direction which worked fine. It was a tight fit as there is not much room in a mini skid steer Just be aware you need the battery cable clamp needs oriented a certain way. Otherwise installation was taking off the negative clamp then clamping it to the post on the switch then clamping to switch to the negative battery post.
The switch works fine and hopefully will help keep my battery from running down.

The one I received is slightly different than the one in the picture but has no effect on functionality. The pictured one has an oblong selector knob, the one I received is round with ribs. It has a nice ‘feel’ to it when it clicks in place and the terminals appear durable. Many reviews for switches like this detail problems with not fitting correctly. This comes with a attachment clearly picturing placing it on the smaller negative (-) terminal. That attachment was simple and secure.

Not pleased because the post hole is too small and I will have to purchase adaptors to be able to use. Not for standard size battery posts.

I use this on my RV for my battery disconnect when my RV isn’t in use, so it doesn’t drain the battery when it is stored. It works great and is easy to install & use. I highly recommend it.
